Library Services Centre
The Library Services Centre provides innovative, customer-focused services that support the University’s learning, teaching and research goals. This includes helping students and staff develop digital and information skills, supporting the use of learning technologies, building research skills and providing access to information resources and scholarly and cultural collections.

The Library also undertakes the management of the University’s tier-one library systems and databases, as well as data analytics to inform service planning and collection development. In addition, it provides a wide range of online resources and services to staff and students across all campuses and study locations.

The Library also leads the management of the University’s business records and archives. This includes the maintenance of information management systems and the use of data analytics to improve processes. Together, these efforts ensure that key information is captured, organised and preserved, supporting compliance, informed decision-making and the ongoing accessibility of the University’s records.

About the Opportunity
We are excited to be offering this new and dynamic opportunity for a Data and Systems Librarian - Collections. The successful candidate will play an instrumental role in supporting the Library Services Centre in achieving its vision. In this role, you will:

  1. Collaborate strategically with internal (Digital Services, Library Service Centre teams etc…) and external stakeholders (vendors, publishers etc…) to monitor and maintain Library systems as well as lead the evaluation, development and delivery of innovative enhancements to systems that support teaching, learning and research.
  2. Engage proactively with relevant internal and external stakeholders to lead the review, analysis and documentation of business processes and requirements resulting in the review of systems configuration and potential integration with technology, to ensure the best use of systems, optimise workflows and promote new developments.
  3. Lead the evaluation and implementation of new analysis tools in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure they will provide the necessary data to make informed collection management decisions about subscriptions and/or databases.
  4. Develop and embed repeatable methods and processes for the analysis of Library collections statistics and data looking at duplication, usage, access requirements and cost / benefit analysis.
  5. Represent the Library by sharing expertise with other institutions through presentations, forums, articles and online channels and by participating in internal and external committees and forums. Liaise with individuals and agencies at state, national and international levels to ensure that the Library’s approach evolves in alignment with global developments.
  6. Lead small to medium Library projects and represent the Library on teams for larger enterprise projects. Apply project management methods and tools to plan and carry out projects, including scheduling, managing risks, and developing communication and training strategies.
  7. Employees are required to participate in all ECU, team, and individual planning activities; comply with ECU policies and practices in all aspects of their work and conduct; and ensure the safety and wellbeing of themselves and others by complying with OSH and EO requirements.

About you
We seek candidates with the following capabilities:

  • Sound project and change management skills, including the ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and to produce deliverables within specified timeframes.
  • Customer Focus: Focusing on all aspects of customer service to achieve quality outcomes for all parties including internal and external customers at all levels. Involves identifying customers' needs and value, managing customer relationships, marketing services to customers and continually evaluating and improving customer service.
  • Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation. Eligibility for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association is desirable.
  • Experience: Experience in the academic library context, including: · Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementation and management of Library systems such as Library Management, Reading List and Document Delivery software or similar systems; · Demonstrated ability to use enterprise and productivity software, and visualisation tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI and Tableau to analyse and present data for decision making, planning and forecasting;
  • Presenting and Communicating Information: Ability to organise and present information, views and concepts in a concise, understandable and interesting format for a variety of audiences, from ECU’s internal and external communities. Involves determining the most appropriate format and vehicle for delivering information to ensure the audiences understanding of the message and its intent.
  • Leading and Supervising: Motivates and empowers others, adapts interpersonal styles to situation, provides staff with development opportunities and coaching, sets appropriate standards of behaviour aligned to ECU’s values and aspired culture.
  • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to work cooperatively with others to accomplish joint tasks and common objectives. Involves building positive working relationships with other and avoiding “win- lose” confrontations and a focus on preserving and strengthening the ongoing relationship. Showing respect for others' views and opinions by listening to and discussing these opinions even if they differ from your own.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Ability to investigate, identify and analyse problems, and their source causes and related issues. To generate alternatives, benefits and costs to develop practical solutions. Being creative and innovative when developing solutions and the ability to identify risks. Understanding when a decision needs to be escalated and proactive in reducing escalation events.
  • Workplace efficiency and effectiveness: Knowledge of resources available across the system internally and externally. Working in a coordinated and integrated way recognising the key interdependencies for success.
