The Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria (VPRBV) is an independent statutory authority responsible for regulating veterinary practitioners in Victoria. We are committed to protecting the public and animal welfare through effective registration, maintaining professional standards, and stakeholder engagement.

Reporting directly to the CEO, and collaborating with VPRBV's Communications Officer, the Senior Communications and Engagement Advisor will lead and deliver key communications and engagement initiatives that align with VPRBV's Strategic Plan and support the VPRBV's mission. This role will drive the organisation's digital presence and transformation, enhance stakeholder engagement and explore innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence that align with Victorian Government guidelines to improve regulatory outcomes.

Candidates must have Australian work rights to be eligible for this position.

Key responsibilities

Strategic communications delivery

Develop and deliver a comprehensive engagement plan based on the VPRBV's engagement strategy with key stakeholders.

Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder engagement activities including consultations, forums, and feedback sessions.

Monitor, evaluate and report on engagement outcomes and recommend improvements, including feedback loops.

Produce and contribute to high-quality content for internal and external audiences, including newsletters, reports, media releases, and digital platforms.

Ensure consistency in messaging across all communication channels.

Website Review and Redevelopment

Lead a project to review and enhance VPRBV's website to improve accessibility, usability, and alignment with strategic messaging.

Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to implement website improvements.

Ensure content is current, relevant, and compliant with government standards and delivers an informative and engaging digital platform.

Innovation and AI Exploration

Identify and assess potential use cases for AI in the VPRBV's regulatory toolkit, including the website, ensuring alignment with Victorian Government AI guidelines and ethical standards.

Prepare briefing materials and recommendations for executive consideration on AI use cases, risks and opportunities.

Lead a project or pilot to develop and implement approved recommendations on AI applications, working with internal teams and external vendors to deliver, as required.

Stakeholder Relationship Management

Coordinate stakeholder consultation to support the revision of VPRBV's professional guidelines.

Build strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Provide strategic advice to internal teams on communication and engagement best practices.

Contribute to other engagement activities undertaken by the Board.

Key Selection Criteria

Demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, or stakeholder engagement, ideally within a regulatory, government, or professional services context.

Minimum of 3-4 years of communications experience is required for this senior role.

Proven ability to develop and implement strategic engagement plans.

Strong project management skills with experience delivering digital transformation projects (e.g., website redevelopment).

Demonstrated initiative in navigating complex issues to implement creative solutions that align with organisational goals and audience needs.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.

Demonstrated ability to engage with professional communities and facilitate consultation processes.

Understanding or experience in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, and their application in communications or regulation.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small, purpose-driven team.

Familiarity with Victorian Government communications standards.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience

Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism or a related discipline.

Familiarity with digital tools, CMS platforms, and analytics.

Professional communications experience in the veterinary, health, or regulatory sectors.

Experience in the Victorian Public Service (desirable).
