Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – Robotics & Automation

Our reputation is built on quality, reliability, and innovation — and as we continue to grow, we’re looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join our expanding team.

You’ll play a key role in developing custom mechanical solutions that bring automation to life — from concept through to commissioning.

The Role

This is a 12-month contract with strong potential to transition into a long-term role.

As our Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll take ownership of automation projects — managing every stage from initial concept and detailed design through to assembly, testing, and client handover. You’ll apply your mechanical expertise, project management skills, and understanding of Australian safety standards to deliver systems that are smart, safe, and built to last.

Key Responsibilities

Lead automation and robotic system projects from design through to commissioning.

Design and develop mechanical assemblies and mechanisms using SolidWorks.

Prepare and maintain detailed engineering drawings and project documentation.

Conduct testing, validation, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems.

Troubleshoot and resolve design or integration challenges.

Perform risk assessments and safety validation of machinery.

Ensure all designs comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 4024).

About You

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

10+ years’ experience in mechanical design, ideally within the automation or machinery industry.

Strong proficiency with SolidWorks.

Excellent documentation, communication, and project management skills.

Demonstrated experience with testing, validation, and safety compliance.

Hands-on problem solver with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Experience in food or washdown environments highly regarded.
