The Role
Our Communications Security (COMSEC) Officers will demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with a confident and approachable manner. You will be provided on the job training, as well as upskilling training opportunities.
Your administrative and organisational skills, along with your attention to detail will ensure the branch meets its Key Performance Indicators and Business Requirements.
ASD 4 COMSEC Officer
- Assist with the transportation of Cryptographic Controlled Items (CCI) by adhering to current security policy and guidelines.
- Assist with data entry input into COMSEC Accounting, Recording and Distribution System (CARDS).
- Assist with the management of and operate Australian Key Management Infrastructure (AKMI) system.
- Assist with formal message drafting on the Defence Formal Messaging System (Mercury).
- Assist with High Assurance Cryptographic Equipment (HACE) operations by performing auditing, keying material and software updates.
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities.
- Recognise when a COMSEC incident has occurred and report accordingly and take immediate action to limit damage.
- Establish and take action when security issues should be escalated to a higher level.
ASD 5 COMSEC Officer

ASD 6 COMSEC Officer
- Management of safehand process for Cryptographic Controlled Items (CCI) by adhering to current security policy and guidelines.
- Manage and operate the COMSEC Accounting, Recording and Distribution System (CARDS) on behalf of the Cryptographic Operations team.
- Manage and operate the Australian Key Management Infrastructure (AKMI) system on behalf of the Cryptographic Operations team.
- Assist with the management of and operate Defence Formal Messaging System (Mercury).
- Management of High Assurance Cryptographic Equipment (HACE) on the Cryptographic Operations account by ensuring all keying material and software updates are completed in accordance with IAW national policy.
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities.
- Recognise when a COMSEC incident has occurred and report accordingly and take immediate action to limit damage.
- Establish and take action when security issues should be escalated to a higher level.

The COMSEC Officer role plays a fundamental role in supporting our cryptography management, providing a key service to ASD and others. We are looking for individuals from a range of backgrounds and levels of skill who encompass a variety of the below attributes.
