Finance Support Officer - NSW Government

Location: Sydney CBD
Pay Rate: $30 - $35 per hour + Super
Assignment Duration: Approx. 5 months with potential to extend
Hours: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week

About the Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic and motivated Finance Support Officer to join a high-performing team within a large government organisation. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates who have recently completed their degree or are returning to the workforce, offering hands-on experience, structured training, and ongoing mentoring.

You’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative environment where you can develop your financial and administrative skills while contributing to the efficient delivery of services across the Division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support business and financial operations, ensuring accuracy and accountability in transactions.
  • Match daily payments (card and cheque) and assist with monthly account reconciliations.
  • Process journals, revenue, and expenditure transactions in line with financial policies.
  • Respond to enquiries and provide timely, customer-focused support.
  • Assist with audit and early close deliverables.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Perform other ad hoc administrative tasks as required.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of financial processes or systems (training provided).
  • Eagerness to learn, with a proactive and positive attitude.
