The Maritime Directorate is responsible for managing the vast WA coastline and facilitating the safe and sustainable use of navigable waters. Our responsibilities include oceanographic data collection, coastal management, strategic planning, and the design and delivery of boating infrastructure. We also manage maritime facilities, environmental emergencies, and operational initiatives, ensuring the enhancement of the WA coast and safe use of navigable waters.

Be the Intelligence Behind WA’s Maritime Emergency Response

In this dynamic role, you will:

Lead with purpose –Drive the intelligence and environmental capability for MEER, ensuring WA is always prepared for, and resilient to, maritime environmental hazards.

Be at the heart of the action – Step up as a senior member of the MEER Incident Management Team, including taking on the Incident Controller role for level 1 incidents when required.

Shape the State’s response – Develop and maintain cutting-edge intelligence systems, provide real-time analysis, and deliver actionable insights to inform critical decisions during emergencies.

Champion innovation – Collaborate with scientific and environmental experts to deliver timely, accurate advice and solutions that protect our coast and communities.

Build strong networks – Forge meaningful relationships with stakeholders across government, industry, and the community, and chair the influential Environment Liaison Group.

Grow your expertise – Participate in state and national response teams, take part in incident exercises, and develop your leadership in a supportive, values-driven environment.

There is currently 1 permanent position available for immediate filling.

What you’ll bring:

Expertise and/or a degree in intelligence analysis, trend identification, and incident response.

Strong leadership and team-building skills, especially under pressure.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Analytical thinking, sound judgement, and a passion for problem-solving.

A collaborative attitude and commitment to delivering quality outcomes.

Bonus points for:

Experience in maritime environmental response, marine science, or the oil & gas sector.

Familiarity with GIS-based Common Operational Picture (COP) systems.
