About the role

The ATSICHS Family Wellbeing Services (FWS) program provides a coordinated and culturally safe support system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families experiencing vulnerability. By offering a comprehensive mix of services tailored to family and community needs, we aim to build family capacity, strengthen community connections, and safeguard the wellbeing of children. At ATSICHS, through holistic case management, and collaboration with multiple service providers, FWS empowers families to navigate challenges, develop essential life skills, and access therapeutic support. The program also engages with families involved in the child protection system, working to address safety concerns, facilitate reunification, and support positive outcomes for children and their families.

Duties

  • Build strong relationships with clients through effective micro-counselling techniques (body language, voice tone, active listening) and delivering unconditional positive regard in removing shame or blame perceptions of client beliefs.
  • Be upfront in explaining client rights, worker responsibilities, mandatory reporting requirements, and complaints processes.
  • Prioritise client safety and risk concerns, ensuring line-Manager is notified. Advocate for client supports against systemic barriers (courts, tertiary care systems etc).
  • Lead tough conversations with clients, outlining non-negotiables of statutory bodies (Child Safety, Police, Courts, Youth Justice etc.). Build change readiness of clients through motivational interviewing strategies and positive reinforcement.
  • Build client agency, self-efficacy and facilitate change through client empowerment, while actively discouraging client dependence on supports.
  • Deliver case managed services according to the program model of care, ensuring minimum case load requirements are maintained to ensure equitable access to services for community.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case notes of all client interactions, ensuring case notes are written from the perspective of clients in their voice.

Benefits

  • Starting salary of $102,595 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) + 12% Super + Not for Profit Salary Packaging (Increases your take home pay).

COVID - 19 Requirements

  • Immunisation history showing you have received two doses of a Covid - 19 vaccine is encouraged.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant social services field with at least 4 years case management experience in family support, child protection, youth support, housing or related field.

OR

  • Diploma in relevant Community/Services field with at least 6 years in a case management role in family support, child protection, youth support, housing or related.

OR

  • At least 6 years case management experience in a family support, child protection, youth, housing or related field. A commitment to complete Diploma (funded by ATSICHS) while working. And identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (with confirmation proof) OR non-indigenous and having worked for an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation for at least 4 years.

AND

  • Exceptional case management skills, including grammatical writing ability, personal organisation and time management, and execution of services according to the model of care phases of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new social work theoretical frameworks of practice, aligned with ATSICHS values. Ability to coach other staff on client interventions that build client motivation, insight and acceptance, self-awareness, decision making (agency), and sustainable behaviour change.
  • Ability to critique and problem solve legislative grey zones, while managing organisational and child/client harm risks.
  • Influence decisions of external stakeholders, including Child Safety, Youth Justice, Schools, and Hospitals.
  • Ability to connect through systems panel coordination numerous internal ATSICHS programs and service to activate wrap-around care for clients, trading-off and negotiating resources across the organisation and between other teams to achieve client impact.

Additional Requirements

  • National Police Certificate.
  • Current Working with Children Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply.
  • Driver's Licence.
  • Evidence of Work Rights.
  • Travel to work in the community on a regular basis.

The service provided primary health care to the Indigenous community around Spring Hill.
