SCHADS Award Level 4: $88,090 per annum (pro rata) plus 12% superannuation and salary sacrificing

Midlas is a not-for-profit Community Legal Centre with offices in Midland and Ellenbrook that supports eligible clients in the north east Perth region with legal services, disability advocacy, financial counselling, tenancy advocacy, community outreach support and information and referrals.

About You

Midlas is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Tenant Advocate to join our team.

About the role

Working with Midlas’ Legal Services, the Tenant Advocate will assist vulnerable and disadvantaged people to identify and resolve their tenancy issues through the delivery of high quality advice, casework and advocacy services.

As part of working within a Community Legal Centre, the Tenant Advocate will also develop and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure good referral pathways, enhanced community education service provision and optimal client outcome while also providing and facilitating community legal education.

Required Education/Licences/Certificates

Relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in community development, social work, community services, law/legal studies program or other relevant area

Possession of a current unrestricted driver’s license, comprehensive insurance for business use and reliable vehicle

Possession of current satisfactory National Police clearance certificate (no older than 3 months from the issue date) and ongoing renewal every 2 years at employee’s expense

Possession of Working with Children Check

Relevant Experience, Skills/Knowledge & Personal Attributes

Knowledge and experience of community legal centres and the issues impacting upon people engaging with these services.

Demonstrated knowledge of residential tenancies legislation and understanding of the housing and homelessness sector.

Demonstrated understanding and capacity to interpret and apply tenancy law.

Experience in, or demonstrated capacity to undertake, direct service delivery, including provision of information, advice and referral services, negotiation and advocacy on behalf of clients, representation of clients in formal settings.

Demonstrated high level of communication skills, both written and oral, including interpersonal and presentation skills.

Good research, problem solving and analytical skills to identify issues and possible solutions based on relevant information.

A strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively, effectively manage workload and set priorities for own work.

Ability to work flexible hours in response to client requirements in an open plan office based environment.

Proficient in the use of MS Office and client database management systems.
