Job description: Centre Coordinator (Manager)
Competitive Salary: SCHADS Award LV6.
Diverse & Rewarding Role: Combine creativity, collaboration, and purpose with management and leadership skills in a role that supports real community impact.
The Community Centre
At the Goodna Neighbourhood House (GNH) we’re all about making a real impact to support people in our community. We’re searching for an energetic Centre Coordinator to empower and lead an already awesome team of support workers.
The GNH is one of the 150 Neighbourhood Centres supported by the Queensland Government’s ongoing commitment to enabling economic participation, supporting healthy communities, and reducing social isolation for Queenslanders. Operating from our heritage listed hall, we have been operating for more than three decades as a central meeting place for community groups covering many common interest groups, training, migrant services and friendship groups. We are also a resource for all community members, providing assistance and guidance on personal and family support opportunities.
Your Role
The GNH Coordinator manages the operations of our centre (3-4 FTE staff and many volunteers) to provide a welcoming and safe space for community engagement and trust building, support community-led plans, and influence systems change. Reporting to our Board, you will work closely with local teams, community leaders and partners to strengthen collaboration, champion community voices and contribute to innovative, person-led practice that helps communities thrive.
You will be joining a supportive, inclusive team committed to working alongside communities to make a real difference. While you will be keen to demonstrate initiative and take new opportunities, you will get a sense of achievement from supporting and encouraging all the existing activities and have the sensitivity to work with all.
While the position is full time, we would consider a part time appointment for a highly experienced candidate to provide leadership and management, working in partnership with our existing community service support staff to cover the full role.
Your Responsibility
Lead a friendly, welcoming culture amongst staff and volunteers to deliver the core goals of Neighbourhood Centres
Manage the centres activities, and support all staff and volunteers to complete all reviews and reports on the centre operation within required time frames
Support the design and embedding of place-based, person-led practice
Enable community participation and build organisational capability
Strengthen co-design and participatory methods in service design and innovation
Translate community insights and evaluation into improved approaches and outcomes
Build connections with other community groups in our region and with other nearby Neighbourhood Centres
You Will Need
Qualifications suitable to the requirements of SCHADS Award LV6
Experience in community development, social work, community services, education or a related field demonstrating the skills required of at least SCHADS Award LV5
Strong understanding of community development and support
Experience working with people experiencing social exclusion, trauma, homelessness or unemployment
Proven ability to coordinate and facilitate programs, activities and events, especially for vulnerable groups
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and complete all external reporting requirements
The energy and active interest to seek out grant applications for the groups operating under our centre and assist the groups to apply for and win grants
We Offer:
Security – We have been operating successfully for over 30 years, own our own premises, and have many groups that have operated for more than a decade.
Supportive Team - Join a welcoming, values-driven team with a strong sense of community.
Learning & Development - On-demand training to support your professional growth.
Inclusive Culture - Thrive in a culturally diverse workplace.
Thorough Briefing on all existing activities – the current Coordinator is keen to assist as much or as little as required to achieve a smooth handover.
