Our client, a well-established professional services firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join their expanding Melbourne team. This role offers the chance to work with a diverse portfolio of clients across multiple industries.

As a Senior Bookkeeper, you’ll take ownership of your client portfolio (typically companies with c 200 employees), delivering an excellent bookkeeping service to your clients which will include payroll management.

The Role

Key responsibilities may include (but not limited to) the following:

Manage bookkeeping processes from setup, ensuring deadlines and client requirements are met, for a number of different clients.

Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.

Manage full payroll processes, including superannuation, payroll tax, WorkCover, and termination payments.

Complete reconciliations for bank accounts, creditors, debtors, wages, PAYG, and payroll tax.

Prepare and lodge monthly and quarterly compliance obligations, including BAS and IAS.

Ensure all financial practices comply with current regulations and professional standards.

Act as a key contact for clients, providing proactive advice and exceptional service.

Review and mentor the work of junior bookkeeping staff.

The Person

The ideal candidate will join bringing to the table the following skills and prior experience:

Around 5 years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounting, ideally within a professional services or client-facing environment.

Strong communication and client relationship management skills.

Advanced understanding of management reporting and compliance obligations including Payroll tax obligations and BAS lodgments.

Proficiency in accounting softwares such as Xero, MYOB, or Sage, along with strong Microsoft Office skills.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Melbourne CBD with a typical split of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. Flexible start/finish times to accommodate your lifestyle will be offered around this. Candidates seeking part-time 0.6 or 0.8 FTE are also encouraged to apply and this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
