About GRAIN

GRAIN is part of the Daylesford Brewing Co group — a venue built on warmth, integrity, and craft. We’re a small team with a big vision: to serve excellent food and drink with heart, consistency, and care.

Every role in GRAIN is vital. Whether on the floor, behind the bar, or in the kitchen, we operate as one team — grounded, professional, and genuinely proud of what we create together.

Our values are respect, accountability, proactiveness, communication, and pride. We don’t cut corners, we show up for one another, and we deliver a guest experience that reflects the love we have for this place.

Positions Overview

As a GRAIN team member, you’ll be responsible for creating an exceptional experience for every guest. You’ll maintain a clean, calm, and efficient workspace — whether that’s serving tables, making coffee, pouring beer, or cooking.

This role requires initiative, reliability, and teamwork. Each team member is expected to take ownership of their section, be observant of both customers and fellow team members, supporting others when needed, and uphold the standards that define GRAIN.

Core Responsibilities Overall

Customer Experience

Greet guests warmly and maintain an approachable, professional presence at all times.

Ensure every customer feels seen, cared for, and valued — no matter how busy service gets.

Communicate clearly with kitchen and bar teams to ensure seamless service flow.

Handle issues calmly and respectfully, escalating to management when necessary.

Food & Beverage Service (Front of House Duties)

Take orders accurately and deliver food and drinks promptly.

Maintain table awareness, cleanliness, and atmosphere throughout service.

Follow RSA and food-handling standards at all times.

Restock service areas, polish cutlery/glassware, and reset spaces between services.

Kitchen & Prep (Back of House Duties)

Prepare and cook dishes to GRAIN’s recipes and presentation standards.

Maintain consistency, portion control, and quality throughout service.

Follow FIFO, food safety, and hygiene procedures strictly.

Complete prep, service, and cleaning lists with accuracy and care.

Venue Care

Keep all areas — inside and out — clean, organised, and inviting.

Complete all daily and end-of-shift checklists (set-up, pack-down, stock rotation, continuous cleaning, bins, sweeping, etc).

Report any maintenance, safety, or stock issues immediately.

Teamwork & Communication

Support each other — no “that’s not my job” attitude.

Communicate clearly and respectfully across all roles.

Take initiative during busy times and stay productive during quiet periods.

Follow directions and contribute ideas for continuous improvement.

Chef Position Overview

This role is for a capable chef who thrives in a dynamic, small-team environment. You’ll handle prep, service, and cleaning with pride, following systems that keep the venue running smoothly. GRAIN’s menu is built on honest produce and consistency — no ego, no shortcuts.

Core Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Service

Prepare and cook dishes to recipe and presentation standards.

Maintain consistency in quality, portioning, and timing.

Work closely with FOH to ensure smooth service and communication.

Manage daily prep and stock levels based on forecasts.

Cleanliness & Organisation

Maintain a spotless, safe, and efficient kitchen — always.

Adhere to FIFO, food safety, and hygiene standards.

Complete daily and end-of-shift cleaning lists thoroughly.

Team & Culture

Show up on time, ready, and present.

Communicate clearly and respectfully — no attitude or blame.

Support others in the team, share tasks fairly, and uphold the values of GRAIN.

Take pride in representing the brand with consistency and care.

Operational Responsibility

Participate in stock rotation, deliveries, and waste minimisation.

Follow all opening and closing checklists diligently.

Report issues immediately — equipment, safety, or supply concerns.

Qualities We Value

Reliability, honesty, and calm focus under pressure.

Pride in your workspace and the food you send out.

A team mentality — you help where help is needed.

Strong communication and follow-through.

Willingness to grow, learn, and take feedback constructively.

Requirements

Minimum 1–2 years’ kitchen experience preferred.

Food Safety Certificate required.

Availability for weekend and public holiday shifts.

Front of House Position Overview

The Front of House team is the heartbeat of GRAIN. You’re not just taking orders — you’re shaping the guest experience. This role requires initiative, attention to detail, and consistent communication with kitchen and bar teams to ensure smooth service and a welcoming atmosphere.

Core Responsibilities
