Byron Shire Respite Service is a community-based not-for-profit organisation supporting older people and carers to live independently and stay connected.

For over 35 years, Byron Shire Respite Service has been a cornerstone of care for the communities of Byron, Ballina, Tweed, and Lismore shires. We specialise in aged and disability care, with extensive experience in providing dementia-specific care and respite for carers.

BSRS embodied the philosophy of person-centred care long before it became a buzzword. People are at the core of our organisation and activities - our dedicated staff and volunteers, the clients who trust BSRS with their care, and the families who find solace in the respite we provide.

Originally founded as a day respite service, our day respite program remains at the heart of the organisation, complemented by a range of services including In-home Support, Community Access, and Social Group Opportunities.

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Finance & Operations Assistant to join our supportive team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in accounts and payroll who enjoys contributing to the smooth running of a purpose-driven organisation.

Part-time – 15.2 hours per week (2 days a week)

Room to grow as the organisation continues to expand

Reports directly to management, supporting the financial and operational systems that enable us to serve our community now and into the future

Key Responsibilities

Process payroll and invoicing using Xero

Support accounts payable and receivable functions

Assist with financial reconciliations, reporting, and compliance tasks

Maintain accurate data and records across systems and CRM

Provide general administrative support to the Finance and Operations team

About You

We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative environment.

Proven experience in accounts or finance (essential)

Proficient in Xero for payroll, invoicing, and account processing

Experience working with systems or CRM platforms (essential)

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Able to work independently while supporting team priorities

Values teamwork, initiative, and community impact
