EDF Power Solutions Australia Pty Ltd is searching for a Civil Works Lead. The position is based in Sydney.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
• Lead and contribute to the civil engineering workstream of Pumped Hydropower Energy Storage (PHES) projects.
• Deliver the civil works design aspects of the technical studies and technical specifications according to agreed scope, time, cost and quality in context of overall PHES project priorities.
• Ensure that civil engineering tasks are strictly carried out in compliance with all relevant requirements with the aim to reduce all technical and HSE risks during the design phase and to reduce costs by “value engineering”.
• Responsible for civil works technical choices and design orientation.
• Responsible for civil engineering compliance with the project's functional requirements, project standards and design criteria, site data, ESIA, and industry standards (e.g. ICOLD recommendations).
• Industrial best practice hydropower pumped energy systems civil engineering together with internal EDF design requirements are applied within respective feasibility study, design works and investigation surveys, technical specifications of the tender documents, as well as relevant laws, regulations and local requirements.
• The Role will contribute to all important decisions related to civil works aspects on the project, liaising with the Design Manager, the Project Director and the EDF Hydro Engineering Center (EDF inhouse engineering team).
• Support the leadership of a team comprising resources across EDF Australia, partners and external consultancy parties and contractors to deliver the agreed project stream outcomes.
• Take responsibility for own work priorities to ensure accuracy, quality, value, and timeliness of work undertaken, and contribute to and incorporate continuous improvement.
• Manage risk and technical analyses.
• Validate the Terms of Reference for civil works, including underground structures as required for the project's relevant studies and investigations; and monitor the technical sub-projects of civil contractors or investigation subcontractors, and report to the Design Manager and Project Director.
• Ensure that civil engineering aspects of a project's technical studies and technical specifications are delivered according to agreed scope, time, cost and quality in context of overall project priorities.
• Manage engineering design delivery partners, external engineering contractors, and manager the relationship between external and internal providers and stakeholders
• Ensure technical options and recommendations are being actively assessed and monitored to maximise the value for the project and minimise technical risks.
• Manages interfaces between the civil works package and the other technical work packages involved in the project: EM, HM, SCADA, Lines and Substations, and E&S.
• Monitor and assess civil works budgets, schedule, resources, and quality and alert Project Director to potential issues.
• Actively assist with the management of internal and external stakeholders relevant to the delivery of projects including presenting to relevant stakeholders as part of opportunity development and advocacy for the projects.
• Draft civil works reporting as requested by the Project Director.
• Represent EDF in technical internal or external seminars.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or similar, with hydro power specialisation preferred.
Skills and Experience:
• 10+ years’ experience in the hydropower energy industry, particularly in civil engineering roles.
• 5+ years' experience as civil work engineer for large scale HPP projects.
• Strong business acumen with an ability to work with multidisciplinary project teams to assess the value, risks and returns of an opportunity, and maximise return within acceptable risk profiles.
• Professional and thorough approach to greenfield project development with a strong understanding of technical deliverables.
• Track record and technical experience of developing and delivering large scale projects up to completion.
• Strong team approach and demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams in multicultural context.
• Ability to analyse complex issues in relation to hydropower development.
• Understanding of risk management and capable of identifying and analysing risk and opportunity implications.
• High degree of interpersonal skills and demonstrable relationship development and management track record.
• Demonstrated exceptional teamwork abilities.
• Experience in performance reporting across a range of deliverables.
• Good knowledge of CIH internal design rules and EDF international project experiences.
