The Opportunity

This role is an exciting opportunity to guide Council’s approach to improving health and wellbeing in the City of Melton through your social planning, research and policy expertise. The role will lead social research, policy development and evaluations, planning responses and engage across the organisation to promote a strategic approach to social and health equity.

The role reports to the Coordinator, Healthy Inclusive Communities and sits within a service unit including community health promotion and community grants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake research and data analysis to inform strategic and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Lead the development, implementation and review of evidence-based social policies, strategies and plans including the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.
  • Engage with internal service units to support the delivery of evidence informed strategy.
  • Provide responses to social planning referrals and oversee the Gender Impact Assessment process to ensure organisational compliance.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with various levels of government, community service organisations, community groups and peak bodies to identify and respond to emerging needs.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in in public policy, social planning or related field with several years relevant experience in social and/or health policy or lesser formal qualifications with extensive relevant experience.
  • High level awareness and understanding of legal and political context of issues impacting upon a growth area and the health and wellbeing of a diverse, growing community.
  • Demonstrated experience in research and analysis, developing and implementing policy options and strategic plans that best position Council to respond to identified needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining dynamic networks and ongoing relationships with funding bodies, health and community service providers, and local community organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with internal service units to support the delivery of evidence informed strategy, programs and projects to strengthen long-term health and wellbeing outcomes.
