About the role
We are seeking a skilled Technical Officer to join a major Defence ICT program focused on modernising secure information and communication systems across complex maritime and joint environments. This position supports mission-critical IT infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security, and operational continuity in both deployed and fixed locations. The role suits someone with a strong technical foundation, practical problem-solving skills & the ability to thrive in a high-security Defence setting.

Up to $800pd inclusive of super

Responsibilities

Provide advanced technical support for Defence ICT systems, applications & infrastructure

Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, often under demanding operational conditions

Manage and maintain messaging environments, Active Directory & virtualised infrastructure

Apply Defence ICT security protocols and patch management practices to maintain compliance

Develop and update technical documentation including SOPs, build guides & system artefacts

Support hardware deployment, configuration & testing activities across environments

Mentor and assist onsite technical staff and participate in on-call support rotations

Collaborate with partner teams and vendors to resolve incidents and ensure system stability

Implement contingency measures to maintain system performance in degraded conditions

Skills and experience

Strong technical knowledge across Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Skype, Citrix & Hypervisor administration

Experience with VoIP, XMPP chat tools or Lotus Domino environments

Understanding of secure network environments, Defence ICT standards & system accreditation requirements

Highly developed troubleshooting, communication & collaboration skills

Strong documentation and reporting ability with attention to detail

NV1 or higher Defence security clearance required (NV2 preferred)

Highly desirable: familiarity with Fortinet, Cisco, Red Hat, Carbon Black, Ivanti, Tanium or Elastic monitoring products

Highly desirable: exposure to Defence maritime or deployed ICT environments
