The Organisation
The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Limited (AHCSA) is the peak body representing Aboriginal community-controlled health and substance misuse services in South Australia at state and national levels.
Our primary role is to be the ‘health voice’ for all Aboriginal people in South Australia. We achieve this by advocating for the community and supporting workers through our Member Services with appropriate Aboriginal health programs based on a holistic perspective of health.
Summary of the Role
- Provide strategic leadership to shape research agendas that directly enhance Aboriginal health and wellbeing outcomes
- Lead a multidisciplinary team across research, data, clinical, and governance functions to drive excellence and innovation
- Cultivate strategic partnerships and identify funding opportunities to support and expand research initiatives
- Oversee health-related research involving South Australian Aboriginal communities through the Aboriginal Health Research Ethics Committee (AHREC) and its Secretariat
- Establish and maintain robust governance frameworks to ensure ethical integrity and cultural sensitivity in all research activities
- Engage proactively with funding bodies to advocate for priority research areas and secure sustainable support
- Build and sustain collaborative relationships with key research partners, Member Services, and Aboriginal community representatives to align research priorities with community needs
Experience
We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Ideally, we are looking for:
- Previous experience in a senior leadership role with state or federal government, public health, an Aboriginal organisation or the not-for-profit sector
- A proven ability to lead, inspire and empower high performing teams to deliver exceptional outcomes
- Expertise across general leadership, governance, ethics and program management
- Deep cultural awareness and past exposure to the Aboriginal community-controlled health sector
- A strong understanding of how to navigate complex systems while upholding core values and principles
- Previous experience across advocacy, partnerships, funding & community consultation
- A strong advocate for Aboriginal health initiatives and communities
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field will be highly regarded

Special Conditions
- Full, unrestricted Australian work rights
- National Police Certificate required.
- Requires the ability to travel intra-state and interstate, including overnight absences.
- Out-of-hours work may be required.

- Possession of a current driver’s license is essential
