About Research Governance and Funding:

The Research Governance and Funding team provides strategic and operational support to ensure QIMR Berghofer's research activities are conducted ethically, safely, and in compliance with all relevant legislation and codes. The team supports researchers in governance, ethics, compliance, and sponsorship matters to facilitate high-quality, impactful research.

Role Purpose / Responsibilities:

Applications are invited for the position of Senior Manager, Research Ethics and Regulatory Affairs.

This senior leadership role oversees human and animal research ethics, regulatory compliance, and sponsor oversight functions. You will provide operational management, and expert advice to ensure institutional compliance with national legislation, codes, and policies while enabling efficient and ethical research.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the Ethics and Regulatory Affairs team across human and animal research portfolios.
  • Ensuring institutional compliance with all relevant research ethics and governance frameworks, including NHMRC and TGA requirements.
  • Overseeing feasibility assessments, sponsorship responsibilities, and research contracts for investigator-initiated clinical trials and studies.
  • Developing and maintaining policies, systems, and frameworks to drive excellence in research governance.
  • Engaging collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including researchers, sponsors, regulators, and partner institutions.

About you:

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in life sciences, health sciences, medicine, veterinary science, research governance or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in research ethics, governance, and regulatory compliance, including investigator-initiated clinical trials.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams in a research or health environment.
  • Deep understanding of national research ethics codes and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with a strong commitment to ethical research and integrity.

Experience in a medical research institute, university or health service is highly desirable, as is exposure to international research regulatory frameworks and clinical trial sponsor obligations.

Remuneration: Salary range is $151,923 to $160,762 p.a. plus super and generous salary packaging. This is a full-time, permanent appointment.
