Be bold. Be creative. Be part of the fight for a green and peaceful future.

At Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP), we believe a better world is possible and we’re determined to make it real. We are an independent campaigning organisation, powered by people and creative action, taking on the biggest environmental and climate challenges of our time. Our priorities are:

  • tackling climate change by stopping emissions from fossil fuel extraction at the source; and
  • protecting nature, including our oceans and forests, by stopping the largest sources of environmental destruction like industrial fishing and deforestation.

Whatever your role at GPAP, you’ll be part of something bigger: a passionate global movement that sparks action, holds decision‑makers to account, and drives lasting change for people and the planet. This is an opportunity to use your skills, creativity, and commitment to help shape a future worth fighting for.

SOCIAL MEDIA ADVISOR

Role: Full time, 12 month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Flexible - Open to candidates Australia wide

THE TEAM

Our primary goal is to bring down the might of the fossil fuel order standing in the way of a sustainable future, and we need your help to do it. The Digital Engagement team works collaboratively across departments to win our campaigns through stunning digital action. This role drives reach, deepens supporter engagement and drives supporters to take action. It strengthens brand health, helps us win campaigns and makes money to fund our work.

This role will report to the Digital Engagement Manager and be a part of a team of experts across digital engagement, creative partnerships, social media and digital campaigning.

We expose environmental crimes, hold companies and governments to account, promote climate solutions and inspire others to create positive change.

THE ROLE

As Social Media Advisor, you’ll be a creative storyteller with a passion for driving change through digital engagement. You will develop and implement GPAP’s social media strategy across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube. This role drives reach, engagement, and advocacy through compelling content that builds our brand, supports campaigns, and activates our global network of supporters.

Working collaboratively with campaigners, fundraisers, and creatives, you will lead GPAP’s content and brand approach to deepen engagement, grow our audience, and ensure our message cuts through in a crowded digital landscape.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and deliver our social media strategy to strengthen engagement and content creation capacity.
  • Plan, produce, and publish engaging, on-brand content tailored to each platform.
  • Maintain our content calendar and coordinate cross-team content planning meetings.
  • Manage and oversee community management.
  • Conduct social media performance analysis, reporting, and competitor benchmarking to drive continuous improvement.
  • Identify emerging social trends and opportunities for innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with Digital Growth, Fundraising, and Campaign teams to align paid and organic strategies.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff to improve social media literacy and best practices.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You’re a strategic thinker with a knack for turning ideas into scroll-stopping content. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, combining creativity with data-driven decision-making. You’re collaborative, passionate about environmental change, and confident leading social-first storytelling.

You’ll ideally also have:

  • 3+ years’ experience in social media management, digital campaigning, or content creation.
  • Strong understanding of analytics, content optimisation, and community engagement.
  • Proven record of growing online communities and driving campaign engagement organically.
  • Experience using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media management platforms.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and visual communication skills.
  • Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.
  • A commitment to Greenpeace’s values of peace, justice, and environmental protection.

We recognise that sometimes the right person for a job is based on personal qualities and not just qualifications. If you are not sure whether you are qualified, we would strongly encourage you to make an inquiry or go ahead and apply.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • Be part of a globally respected brand: Work with one of the most influential names in the environmental NGO space, backed by five decades of courageous campaigning.
  • Work-life balance you can rely on: A 35-hour work week, supported by GPAP’s integrity framework, plus generous leave options (including an additional week of paid leave between Christmas and New Year).
  • Workplace designed for impact: Enjoy our purpose-built head office in Rosebery, Sydney, a space created to foster collaboration and creativity.
  • A culture of belonging: Join a team that truly celebrates inclusivity, diversity, and a sense of community.
  • Support for your wellbeing: Access an annual health and wellness allowance to help you thrive both inside and outside of work.

Annual full-time salary: $97,942.75 per annum plus 12% superannuation.
