The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a proactive and committed individual to support Council in meeting its Work Health and Safety (WHS) obligations across both field and corporate environments. The position provides on-the-job training, mentoring, and support to employees, contractors, and volunteers to ensure effective implementation of Council’s WHS management system, including its safety policies, procedures, and practices.

As a Work Health and Safety Officer, you will conduct regular WHS compliance inspections and audits to identify areas where Council is not compliant and work with our operational teams to improve the implementation of Council’s safety systems and support the investigation of incidents to determine root causes and recommend strategies for prevention and continuous improvement in workplace safety. You will assist in educating employees, volunteers, and contractors regarding safety management, WHS policies and systems along with new legislation, regulations, and standards.

About You

We are seeking an individual who holds a Certificate IV level qualification in WHS or related discipline and has demonstrated practical experience in WHS or similar profession.

You will have the following skills and experience;

• Ability to interpret and apply WHS Legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
• Demonstration of the application of analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
• High level of written and verbal communication skills including the ability to liaise and influence internal and external stakeholders, especially with regards WHS.
• Demonstrated experience in developing, monitoring, and implementing safety management systems.

Benefits

This is a permanent, full time position working 35 hours per week.

The total remuneration package for this position commences at $99,776.77 gross per annum, comprising of:

• $1,713.20 per week base salary
• $205.58 per week superannuation (calculated at 12%)
