At The Lakes Early Learning Centre, we believe mealtimes are more than just eating — they’re opportunities to connect, explore, and learn. We are a large, vibrant early learning community caring for children from 6 weeks to school age, and we’re looking for a passionate and organised Head Chef to lead our kitchen and bring joy, creativity, and nutrition to every plate.

About the Role

As our Head Chef, you’ll manage all aspects of the centre’s kitchen operations — from menu planning and food preparation to maintaining compliance with health and safety standards. You’ll prepare nutritious, child-friendly meals that cater to a variety of dietary requirements and cultural preferences, while creating a warm and welcoming food culture for children and educators alike.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and prepare healthy, balanced meals and snacks for children aged 0–5 years

Create seasonal menus that meet Australian Dietary Guidelines and QLD ECEC nutritional standards

Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment in line with Food Safety regulations

Manage food ordering, stock rotation, and budget control

Cater for allergies, intolerances, and cultural dietary needs

Work collaboratively with educators and families to promote positive food experiences

About You

Previous experience as a Chef or Cook (preferably in childcare, aged care, or similar environment.

Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain)

Knowledge of nutrition and menu planning for young children

Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently

A caring, community-minded attitude and love for working in a child-focused environment
