Your new role
The Graduate Environmental Health Officer assists in carrying out effective and efficient environmental health duties within the municipality. You will create and maintain an environment that preserves and enhances public health, thereby ensuring a safe and healthy lifestyle for the citizens of the City of Knox.
You will hold:
- a relevant tertiary qualification in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualification as approved by the Australian Institute of Environmental Health.
- A membership of Environmental Health Professionals Australia, or eligibility to obtain.
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence is required for this role

This is a full time temporary 12 month role based at the Knox City Council Civic Centre commencing in January 2025. We can offer a range of flexible and hybrid work options for the right candidate.
This is a Band 5 classified role, remuneration will be $80,377.95 - $93,517.76 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
You may be required to undertake position duties outside of normal working hours, as required.
What you will need to thrive
The key selection criteria for this role are:
- Ability to learn the processes and procedures of a local government Health Services Department.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work with all levels of staff, the community, commercial and professional stakeholders.
- Work as an effective team member, able to display a positive and flexible attitude to problem solving with the aim of achieving good outcomes.
- Ability to learn computer packages likely to be used within Health Services
- Knowledge and understanding of the Food Act, Public Health and Wellbeing Act, Environmental Protection Act, Tobacco Act, Residential Tenancies Act and other associated Acts and Regulations.
- Developing ability to work under pressure and be able to implement time management processes and task scheduling.
