Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park (UKTNP) Board of Management is seeking engaged, proactive and reliable individuals to fill Board member roles for a 5 year term. The Board is looking for professionals ready to actively participate in meetings, contribute their expertise and insight, and play a role in guiding UKTNP.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is established on Aboriginal land owned by the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Aboriginal Land Trust under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976, and leased to the Director of National Parks. The Central Land Council (CLC) is the relevant land council in relation to the park. UKTNP is jointly managed by the Traditional Owners and the Director of National Parks through the UKTNP Board of Management.

The UKTNP Board of Management was established in 1985 and is currently constituted by the following 12 members:

eight Indigenous persons nominated by the Traditional Owners of the Park;

  • the person holding the office of the Director of National Parks under the EPBC Act 1999 or a Senior Executive Service employee in the Parks Australia Division;
  • a person responsible for Tourism and approved by the Traditional Owners of the Park;
  • a person nominated by the Northern Territory and approved by the Traditional Owners of the Park; and
  • a person responsible for the Environment and approved by the Traditional Owners of the Park

The UKTNP Board of Management is revising their Tourism and Environment Board member positions whose membership terms expire within the next 12 months and therefore invites interested experts from either of the following professional streams to submit a Board member application;

  • education
  • tourism
  • training and development

  • business
  • infrastructure

Role and responsibilities

The functions of the UKTNP Board of Management are:

  1. to make management decisions relating to the operation of the park that are consistent with the UKTNP management plan 2021-2031; and
  2. in conjunction with the Director of National Parks, to:
  • prepare management plans for UKTNP;
  • monitor the management of UKTNP; and
  • advise the Minister on all aspects of the future development of UKTNP.

The Board member will:

  • attend and actively participate in quarterly UKTNP Board of Management meetings and other relevant engagements
  • provide insights and expertise as relevant to UKTNP
  • uphold the values and objectives of the UKTNP Board of Management
  • work closely with the Traditional Owner members of the UKTNP Board of Management to make decisions that protect the cultural values of UKTNP.

The UKTNP Board of Management meets four times a year, with eligible Board members paid for their time, travel and expertise, as per the Remuneration Tribunal (Remuneration and Allowances for Holders of Part-time Public Office) Determination 2024.

Eligibility and appointment

A Board member must be a person qualified to fulfil the position and be endorsed by the UKTNP Board of Management prior to appointment by the Minister for the Environment. The appointee is required to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check.

Application process

Interested individuals are invited to submit their expression of interest including:

  • Detailed resume outlining relevant knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
  • Statement of claims, no more than 750 words, detailing field of expertise, why they want this role and how they would be an asset to the UKTNP Board of Management.
  • contact information for at least two professional references.

Submission process

Applications close on 24 October 2025. Contact Jasmina Muhic at [email protected] with any questions.
