JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Operations Manager provides strategic and hands-on leadership for the daily operations of the Muchea Livestock Centre (MLC), ensuring the site is run efficiently, cost-effectively, and in line with the Authority’s standards. A core responsibility is the oversight and continuous improvement of Work Health and Safety (WHS) across all operations. This includes developing, implementing, and maintaining WHS policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
The role leads the planning and delivery of maintenance and capital replacement programmes, manages operational budgets, and drives improvements in operational systems and practices. The Operations Manager sets the standards for site operations, supervises staff, and ensures that all team members are adequately trained and supported to work safely and effectively.
Key priorities include:
· Leading and supervising daily operations to maintain high standards of safety, efficiency, and compliance.
· Managing all WHS matters for the Authority, fostering a positive safety culture, and preventing workplace injuries and illnesses.
· Overseeing compliance with the Western Australian Meat Industry Authority Act 1976 and other relevant regulations.
· Identifying and implementing operational improvements and best practices.
· Providing leadership, guidance, and training to staff, and ensuring performance and development reviews are completed.
· Advising the CEO on operational and WHS matters to support effective decision-making.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential Selection Criteria
1. Cert IV or above qualification in WHS and it would be highly advantageous having utilised this skill set within a saleyard or farming environment.
2. Demonstrated experience in managing operational teams, aligning team activities and strategic plans to organisational objectives and direction.
3. High level ability to solve problem-solve, analyse information and assess situations to identify solutions, inform decision-making and prevent potential issues.
4. Strong organisational and self-management skills including proven ability to evaluate project/program performance, identify areas of improvement and initiate changes to ensure positive outcomes, deal positively with uncertainty and cope in a changing environment, with a focus on quality, adherence to current procedures and managing projects to completion within a set timeframe.
5. Demonstrated experience in budget and contract management, preferably within the agriculture industry.
6. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including ability to work collaboratively with others with a diverse range of stakeholders and staff.
Desirable Selection Criteria
1. Proven experience in a similar role, ideally in a livestock saleyard or related industry.
2. Experience utilising Quality/Safety Management Systems and frameworks.
3. Experienced in managing projects and budgets.

Appointment Pre-requisites
WHS Cert IV training certificates or above, and or other applicable qualifications
Evidence of eligibility to work in Australia
Completion of a 100 Point Identification Check
Successful Criminal Record Screening Clearance
Successful Pre-Employment Medical Clearance
Current Driver’s License
