Shape Perth’s People Experience – Partner with Leaders to Build a High-Performing City

Perth is a city with ambition. As the capital of Western Australia, the City of Perth is a Local Government that exists to enable and deliver the aspirations of its community. To do this, we bring together forward-thinking professionals who can empower our people, enhance our culture, and drive meaningful impact across the City.

We are seeking a proactive and trusted People Partner to join our People & Culture team. This is your opportunity to shape the employee experience, champion the City’s values, and partner with leaders to build capability, engagement, and performance across our workforce.

About the Role

This is not just another HR role, it’s about enabling people to thrive.

As a People Partner, you’ll collaborate with leaders across all areas of the City to provide strategic and operational advice across the employee lifecycle, from workforce planning and onboarding to performance, development, and change.

The role is offered on a part-time basis (0.6 FTE), equating to 22.5 hours per week spread across five days (4.5 hours on average per day). This structure is designed to ensure a consistent presence, build trusted relationships, and make a meaningful impact every day, ideal for experienced professionals seeking to deliver high-value outcomes with a balanced work rhythm.

You’ll coach, influence, and empower leaders to build confidence in managing their teams, while driving people initiatives that support organisational goals and a high-performance culture.

Key focus areas include:

  • Building strong, trusted partnerships with leaders and teams.
  • Delivering practical and strategic HR advice aligned with business priorities.
  • Supporting workforce planning and development to meet future capability needs.
  • Providing case management and employee relations support grounded in fairness and compliance.
  • Contributing to organisational improvement and culture-building initiatives.

About You

You are a people-focused HR professional who thrives on collaboration and problem-solving.

You bring:

  • Demonstrated experience providing generalist HR support in a complex organisation, ideally at Advisor or Partner level.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, industrial instruments, and HR frameworks.
  • The confidence to coach and influence leaders to achieve great people outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a customer-first mindset.

Above all, you embody the City’s values of Commitment, Teamwork, Courage and Respect.

Why Join Us?

At the City of Perth, we’re driven by excellence, integrity and a shared commitment to public value. Joining our People & Culture team means being part of a supportive, collaborative environment where your ideas are valued and your work makes a difference.

This role is intentionally designed to offer impact and balance giving you the space to deliver strategic outcomes, partner closely with leaders, and contribute meaningfully to organisational success, all while enjoying a work rhythm that fits into a five-day week.

You’ll join a team that believes in empowering people, building capability, and shaping a workplace where both our community and our employees can thrive.
