Legal Counsel – Maternity Leave Cover (7 Months)

We are currently recruiting for a Legal Counsel for our client, a respected education-focused organisation based in the Sydney CBD. This is a 7 month maternity leave cover offering a competitive salary of $186,991 + super + salary packaging, and a flexible hybrid work arrangement (3 days in-office, 2 days WFH).

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality legal advice across employment, commercial, education, and family law.
• Mentor and support lawyers and paralegals, acting as the go-to for leadership and relationship management.
• Draft and negotiate a wide range of legal documents including contracts, deeds, and service agreements.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders across a diverse range of legal matters.
• Represent the organisation in dispute resolution, including courts and tribunals.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and manage legal risk.
• Occasionally travel to schools across the Sydney metropolitan area (infrequent).

Ideal Candidate:

• Minimum 6 years post-admission experience in law.
• Strong background in employment and commercial law; experience in education and family law is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small in-house legal team.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
• A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to commencement.
