The Role
We are currently seeking a Professional Mechanical Engineer to join our Stage Machinery team based in Melbourne. This is an exciting and varied role for someone passionate about engineering and looking to be hands-on in a unique and creative industry.
Our stage machinery installations include (but are not limited to):
Orchestra Pit Lifts
Power Flying Hoists
Curtain Tracks & Accessories
Drapes and Lighting Bars
As a key team member, you’ll manage the full project lifecycle—from quoting and tendering to on-site coordination and final handover. While theatre-specific training is provided, experience in construction, mechanical systems, or project management is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare quotations, tenders, and associated project documentation
Attend site meetings and build strong client relationships
Design project solutions using SolidWorks
Read and interpret architectural and consultant drawings/specifications
Coordinate with manufacturing, installation teams, and stakeholders
Create shop drawings and technical documents
Manage and schedule on-site installations, including ordering materials and coordinating staff
Assist project admin with invoicing and reporting
Oversee project handovers, including training and documentation (O&M manuals, compliance documents)
About You
Chartered Engineer (or eligible to apply)
Proven ability to manage end-to-end projects and lead site teams (up to 10 people)
Strong problem-solving mindset and hands-on attitude
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Proficient in SolidWorks and general engineering software
Experienced in construction, project management, or manufacturing
White Card
Able to work autonomously and as part of a team
Willing to assist with on-site work when required
Takes pride in delivering high-quality work
Desirable Experience
Theatre industry or drapery experience
Electrical or Control Systems knowledge
