Position: Environmental Field Officer
Type: Temporary Part Time, 3 to 6 months on 4 days per week Monday to Thursday.
Opportunity for a permanent role at the end of the assignment
Duties and Responsibilities of the role:
Undertake manual field work in Council’s bushland reserves as part of a team, including:
Maintain vegetation and infrastructure in bushland reserves, both scheduled and in response to customer service requests, hazard reports and biosecurity duties.
Undertake maintenance of bushland walking and mountain bike tracks and fire trails including vegetation and surface maintenance, tree works and removal, signage, fencing, environmental controls, and counter data collection.
Use and maintain of a variety of hand-held power tools and equipment in a bushland environment e.g., chainsaw, brush cutter, pole saw, drills, pumps, generators, blowers etc.
Assist with pest and weed control programs, including use of pesticides and other chemicals in a safe manner.
Support the volunteer Bushcare program, including on-ground works
Provide field support for water quality and environmental health monitoring, including sampling, driving vehicles (off-road), loading and unloading vehicles and maintaining field equipment.
Provide logistical support for boat operations, including launching and retrieving, driving, refuelling, cleaning, maintaining, and storage.
Work in accordance to risk assessments, safe work method statements and safe operating procedures
Licenses or Certificates:
Current class C Driver’s licence
Current NSW General Boat Licence
Chainsaw Operations Certificate (Level 1 or higher)
Current Apply First Aid Certificate
ChemCert, equivalent accreditation (minimum AQF level 3)
White Card
Qualifications:
Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management, or equivalent relevant trade qualifications
Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
Two years bush regeneration experience
Basic skills, knowledge, and experience in bushland management field work, including bushland regeneration techniques.
Experience with bushland track and trail management, construction, and maintenance.
Basic oral and written communication skills.
Experience in community programs, events, and workshops
Ability to work well as part of a small dynamic team.
Safe handling and use of herbicides
Experience driving vehicles off-road and towing and reversing boat trailers.
Experience driving, launching, retrieving, and maintaining motorboats.
