About the Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager Investigations, the Principal Investigator is responsible for supporting the Commissioner by managing a program of critical work relating to high-risk, complex, and sensitive investigations.
The Principal Investigator will also support the regulation of Tobacco and Vaping and provide strategic advice and guidance to investigators and compliance inspectors. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, the Principal Investigator will lead the design of investigation and inspection strategies, contribute to the continuous improvement of investigation and inspection practices, and conduct complex investigations that are high risk or of significant importance to Consumer and Business Services.
Success in the role is underpinned by the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and partner with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver a high standard of investigation and inspection outcomes.
About the Business
The Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) provides a range of legal, regulatory and other services for the government and people of South Australia. Consumer and Business Services (CBS) is a division of the Attorney-General’s Department and is responsible for protecting consumers, supporting and regulating businesses and recording significant life events for South Australians. CBS is customer focused and flexible in its activities, providing accessible information and services.
The Principal Investigator operates within a complex, dynamic and sensitive environment and is required to exercise discretion, initiative and a high-level of judgement under limited direction.
This role contributes to the strategic goals of CBS through strategic and operational oversight of critical investigations. The role is required to work closely with other CBS managers, senior officers across AGD, stakeholders across government and other relevant jurisdictions.

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.
Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence (equivalent to minimum class C).
