The Institute of International Studies (TIIS) is a private higher education provider committed to delivering high-quality academic programs and student experiences. We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Accountant to join our Finance and Administration team. This role will support senior management with the day-to-day financial operations of the institute. The successful applicant will have a strong understanding of financial systems, payroll, ATO obligations, and the ability to manage multiple accounting tasks in a higher education setting.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate financial records including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations
Process tuition fees, invoices, refunds, and maintain student financial records
Manage fortnightly/monthly payroll processes, including superannuation and tax compliance
Support the preparation of financial reports, cash flow analysis, and audit documentation
Ensure financial compliance with relevant accounting standards and legislative requirements ( ATO, )
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on finance-related matters
Assist with budget development, forecasting, and expenditure tracking
Maintain financial records for insurance, registration, and staff entitlements
Contribute to the development of finance policies, procedures, and improvement initiatives
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar accounting role (experience in education or not-for-profit is highly regarded)
Sound knowledge of Australian accounting principles, ATO and Fair Work compliance
Experience with payroll systems and cloud-based accounting software (e.g., Xero, )
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A proactive and collaborative approach to work
Desirable
CPA/CA qualification or working towards
Experience supporting audits and risk management processes
