About the role

We are seeking an experience and motivated Financial Accountant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to delivering high-quality financial management. Reporting to the CFO, this role plays an integral part in the accurate and timely completion of various finance functions within Family Services Australia (FSA). At FSA you will thrive in taking accountability for the below duties and responsibilities, but not limited to:

Assist in the maintenance of the fixed asset register and associate registers;

Preparation and analysis of management accounts and financial reports;

Assist the Finance Manager with the preparation of budgets, management accounts and forecasts;

Assist in the preparation of monthly BAS and yearly FBT return.

Assist with requests for financial information from other areas of the organisation as directed by the Finance Manager;

Assist with internal system process improvement;

Finalise and review the key finance function on a weekly basis, together with the statutory and reporting obligations required to government bodies and stakeholders;

General accounting and ad-hoc duties as they arise;

Have an understanding of grant funding acquittal process will be viewed favourably;

Manage the preparation of timely and accurate month end reconciliations;

Participation in the management of audit engagements;

Prepare accurate and timely tax reconciliations and tax forms to meet the financial and tax requirements and compliance obligations including, GST, FBT and PAYG;

Prepare and post month end related journals, dealing with any issues as they arise;

Provide advice, financial analysis and/or costing of business unit initiatives and projects to maximise opportunities for approval and to ensure commercial viability; and

Provide backup support for Payroll and assist where needed in the end to end payroll function.

Essential Criteria – Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Value-Add

Graduate with successful attainment of a relevant University Degree, with the willingness to participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and/or attain membership in a professional Accounting body or completion of a Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification;

Min. (3) years’ experience as a finance staff member in a multi-disciplined finance team;

Direct experience in a community service environment or equivalent operating environment that has included successful, cohesive and supportive engagement with teams;

Ability to meet deadlines and plan workload efficiently to meet company and client expectations with excellent time management skills;

Strong proactive problem-solving ability to resolve day to day operational priorities with sustainable solutions;

Capacity to build, develop and nurture positive service provider partnerships and productive working relationships with FSA staff, the SLG and ELT;

Ability to demonstrate a high-level, advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to use Excel to import and export large transaction volumes to assist financial analysis;

Excellent prioritisation, time and project management ability with a resilience and calmness when operating in dynamic operating environments;

Ability to support a multi-disciplined environment with high Standards of Care, Compliance, Quality Assurance, Audit and Risk Management;

Outstanding internal and external communication and interpersonal skills to aid staff capacity development; and

Ability to obtain Working with Children’s Check and National Police Check (NPC) clearances.
