About this Program

A key recommendation from the Royal Commission emphasised the crucial role of families and carers in not only caring for their loved ones, but also in the overall functioning and sustainability of the mental health system.

The Mental Health & Wellbeing Connect forms a vital component of the integrated services provided in the reformed Mental Health and Wellbeing system in Victoria. Services will be provided primarily by a team of individuals with personal experience as carers, and will offer support to families, carers, kin, and supporters of individuals facing mental health challenges, psychological distress, mental illness, or substance use concerns.

About the Opportunity

As the Volunteer Coordinator, your primary responsibility will be to recruit and oversee our team of Volunteers as well as provide support to Family and Peer Workers who support families, carers and loved ones to establish community inclusion, helping to create more welcoming spaces in the community and supporting people to increase their sense of belonging within the community.

With the guidance and support of the Program Coordinator, you will also be responsible for recruitment, training, supervision and support the team.

This role will see you supporting volunteers and support the initial introduction between volunteers, carers and families and work with them to ensure appropriate and tailored support is offered. We are looking for a warm-hearted individual who shares our passion for making a difference in the everyday lives of carers, who is an experienced people manager who can inspire and be inspired by our dedicated team of local area champions to ensure they are fully equipped to deliver the best quality service to those in our care.

You will also need:

  • Personal lived experience of caring for someone with mental health challenges or psychosocial distress and recovery
  • Certificate IV in social science or related discipline
  • Current valid Driver's License and the ability to undertake travel for the role

About Wellways

Benalla, VIC, Australia

Wellways Australia Limited is a leading not-for-profit mental health and disability support organisation with services in Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and Tasmania. Our services span mental health, disability and community care, and reach thousands of people each year.

We work with a diverse range of people living with mental health issues or various disabilities, and their families, friends and carers, to bring about positive change and build good lives in their communities. This can include creating a home, securing a job and building meaningful relationships.

Our mental health, disability and rehabilitation services bring together evidence from research with an understanding of people’s lived experience—what works for them. Our mental health workforce includes clinicians, nurses, community support workers and ‘peers’—those who have a lived experience of mental illness and recovery. Together, they create an environment that focuses on hope rather than illness.

We work in partnership with people and their families to identify their own needs and goals and support them to attain a great life in the community. Our partnerships extend to clinicians, GPs, hospitals, community health organisations and government, ensuring that our services and programs reach people in the communities in which they live.
