About Somerville Community Services
Somerville is a for-purpose, community-based organisation that has supported Territorians for over 50 years. We specialise in high-quality disability services that empower people to live the life they choose. As a registered NDIS provider, we deliver individualised support across the Northern Territory, with a focus on respectful, person-centred relationships that promote choice, dignity, and independence.
About the role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Human Resources Officer to join our friendly HR team in Darwin.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is organised, motivated, and keen to learn. You’ll provide day-to-day support across a broad range of HR activities – from preparing documents and managing records, to helping with recruitment, onboarding, compliance checks, and HR projects.
If you’re a quick learner with strong attention to detail and a positive attitude, this role offers the chance to build your HR career in a supportive and collaborative team.
What you’ll be doing
As Human Resources Officer, you will:
- Prepare HR documents, letters, and employment contracts while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy
- Support recruitment and onboarding processes, including coordinating interviews, preparing induction packs, and conducting inductions
- Ensure accurate documentation and action for employee changes, including secondments, higher duties, and other employment adjustments
- Monitor HR compliance requirements, follow up on expiring documentation, and maintain accurate staff records
- Respond to routine HR enquiries via the HR inbox, escalating more complex matters when required
- Support HR-led projects, events, and engagement activities
- Provide administrative support across HR operations, including meeting coordination and minute-taking
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who’s approachable, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality HR support. Ideally, you’ll have:
- Experience in administration or HR support, with the ability to follow processes with accuracy and consistency
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation
- Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organisation
- A customer-focused approach, with a commitment to providing high-quality support to staff and stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and the ability to quickly learn new systems
- Integrity, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive information appropriately
You will also need (or have the ability to obtain):
- NT Driver’s Licence
- National Criminal History Check
- NT Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance)
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
- Influenza vaccination
- Full Australian working rights

We offer a supportive work environment where your skills are valued, your contribution is recognised, and you’ll be encouraged to develop your HR career in a role that makes a real difference. We also offer:
- Five weeks annual leave
- NFP salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay
- Paid parental leave
- Free on-site parking
- Regular check-ins and a focus on wellbeing
- Training and professional development opportunities
- Free, confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
