The Company
This Tier 1 Developer / Builder is on its way to becoming one of Australia’s leading providers of bespoke commercial, industrial, and high-rise residential projects.
Due to their strong involvement in the real estate market over the past half-century, they possess priceless insights into identifying value, investments, returns, and cash flows for their clients, advising them not only on the right places to buy but also on the best locations to build and lease.
The Culture
Everyone is an individual and treated like family because they are! This has taken decades to cultivate, synergise, and harmonise.
With almost 50 years of knowledge and expertise in development and construction passed down from one generation to the next, they know what it takes to create, build, and deliver outstanding projects, while maintaining the culture, values, and principles of a family builder.
The Project and PM
Over the next three years, you'll be embarking on a fantastic journey with one of the best Project Managers and mentors of his generation.
This one-of-a-kind opportunity is valued at around $300 million and is set to be a state-of-the-art town planned community serving dozens of different tenants, thereby enhancing the community of SA.
With no expense spared to ensure this mega complex stands out above all others, it's well and truly put on the map once it's opened.
The gentleman you'll be reporting to is not only a mentor but has managed some of the most complex projects this business has had to offer over the years.
Which is why he was given the opportunity last year to manage this amazing town-planned community.
The Position
This role combines estimation, contract administration, and project coordination into the position and job description. Based on the in-depth discussions I've had with the Project Manager this week, he gave me a tour of the amazing premises where you'd be working.
He thinks the person best suited to the opportunity is a construction professional two to five years out of university who has had exposure to some estimating, CA work, and/or project coordination, but not enough to their satisfaction.
As to where they think their current employer is going to be able to give them the training, exposure, mentoring, and knowledge to be able to get them to the point of understanding the full gamut and turn-key approach to becoming an up-and-coming Project Manager in the future.
Over time, this PM will teach you to estimate (bill of quantities), procure, administer, and coordinate small jobs of $1M to $5M, and then, under his guidance, larger jobs of $10M to $ 50 M of all scopes and sectors within the mega structure of this planned community.
The Personal
I’ve worked with this business for years and placed over a dozen personnel within it, so I believe I have a good understanding of the personal and professional background they are seeking.
Although they are not into micromanaging, the place is built on top performers who want to get ahead, learn, and grow in a traditional, old-fashioned way. Not by talking, but by doing, and if mistakes happen along the way, which they will, so be it.
Which is why the person best suited for this role is one with a personality that's ambitious, hungry, not afraid to fail, and willing to give everything a try while learning.
The Professional
Someone who completed a Bachelor's in Construction Management within the last 5 years. I say within five years, as he's looking for someone with a consistent work tenure and obvious momentum since graduation, without any gaps or breaks in their work.
Someone who has worked in estimation, contract administration, and/or project coordination with a Developer and Head Contractor in the Australian market for at least two years. Preferably three or more, but it's what you've done, not how long you've done it, that counts.
Someone who's looking to learn to understand the theory and put it straight into practice, as this is an on-site position, not in the office, so if you only like being behind a computer and not dealing with subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and clients. Probably not the role for you, but if you do, you're going to be exposed to 3x - 5x more than you ever would working in a standard role.
