Katherine Women's Information and Legal Service (KWILS) is a specialist Women's Legal Service based in Katherine, Northern Territory, on Jawoyn, Wardaman, and Dagoman country. We provide free legal services for women experiencing disadvantage across the Big Rivers region, with a focus on family and civil law, including domestic, family, and sexual violence, child protection, and victims of crime compensation. Through a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approach, we offer legal advice, representation, and integrated support services to create a holistic client experience. Our work also includes community legal education, advocacy, and law reform to advance women's rights.

Position purpose
The Intake and Support Worker is a vital first point of contact for clients, playing a key role in assessing needs, triaging clients based on urgency, providing immediate support and connecting individuals with appropriate services. Their work ensures timely access to assistance, promotes client wellbeing, and is essential in creating a supportive and accessible pathway for clients engaging with KWILS.
This position is offered as a 15-month parental leave cover contract, with full onboarding and support provided.
Main responsibilities
Client intake
Manage requests for legal advice/assistance, directly from clients, through referrals from service providers and Supportlink.
Triage all incoming matters/requests for assistance appropriately, identifying urgent matters based on set criteria and risk factors.
Complete client intake checklists and obtain relevant documents to ensure service delivery to clients is managed seamlessly, and client information is up to date.
Collect client information essential to legal and support appointments in an accurate and non-judgemental manner.
Provide efficient and effective customer service to clients and stakeholders, including making client and office bookings and contributing to the maintenance of KWILS' electronic office diary.
Maintain strong working relationships and knowledge of stakeholder roles and services available to clients.
Coordinate interpreter services for clients requiring language support.
Client support
Facilitate referrals to clients as directed by the Support and Connections Leader.
Provide discrete support services to clients when required including: client pick-ups and drop offs; referrals to external services; and support for clients during KWILS legal appointments
Provide and manage the safe phones for eligible clients, providing updates to SCL when required.
Attend Katherine-based meetings as required by the Support and Connections Leader.
Liaise with local services on behalf of clients (as required).
Data and record keeping
Accurately enter/record client and project data in the KWILS file management system (ActionStep) promptly produce regular reports for colleagues as required.
Ensure filing and record-keeping systems are maintained and current.
Contribute to the review and development of KWILS' record keeping processes, including templates.
Organisational responsibilities
Support the ongoing improvement and implementation of office operating procedures and routines.
Provide back-up reception support when needed.
Other tasks within your skills and competence as required.
Required qualifications/or accreditations
Maintain a valid Working with Children's Check and satisfactory National Police Clearance.
Valid driver's licence.
Australian work rights are required for this position.

SCHADS level 3.1 - 3.4 equivalent salary ($76,372-$81,905) depending on skills and experience)
