Street Sweeper Operator

🛠️ About the Role

Banana Shire Council is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Street Sweeper Operator to join our Infrastructure Services team. This hands-on role is responsible for operating Council's street sweeper across the Shire to maintain roads, gutters, stormwater drains, and other public areas to a high standard.

You’ll play a key part in delivering essential services that enhance the appearance, safety, and functionality of our communities.

📋 Key Responsibilities

Operate Council’s street sweeper and other plant equipment as required

Conduct daily inspections and routine maintenance of machinery

Perform general labouring duties and assist with traffic management

Maintain accurate records (e.g. defect forms, fuel books, timesheets)

Liaise with internal teams, the public, and external authorities

Participate in disaster management and recovery efforts

Promote Council’s image and uphold our values in all interactions

🎓 What You’ll Need

Mandatory:

Queensland Class ‘HR’ manual driver’s licence

General Construction Induction Card (White Card)

Ability to obtain Street Sweeping Ticket/Certification

Desirable:

Chemical handling certification

Traffic Management Implementation competency

💼 Skills & Experience

Proven experience operating heavy vehicles in infrastructure environments

Ability to maintain plant and equipment to manufacturer standards

Strong communication, literacy, and numeracy skills

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Understanding of EEO and WHS principles and practices
