About SafeWork NSW

SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to protect NSW workers by preventing and reducing work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation.

SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator.

About the role

This is a senior opportunity to join a newly established and expanding team within People and Corporate Services, committed to building a collaborative culture that places the safety and wellbeing of all staff at its core. As a Senior Advisor, you will play a strategic and influential role in delivering expert guidance across a broad spectrum of physical and psychological work health and safety (WHS) services. You'll lead the development and continuous improvement of WHS policies, procedures, and practices, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements and organisational priorities. Working in a dynamic environment focused on uplift and innovation, you'll help shape a proactive, risk-aware culture that supports staff wellbeing and drives meaningful, long-term impact across the organisation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the organisation's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS), ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • Design and implement proactive WHS strategies, programs, and training to address physical and psychological risks and promote a culture of wellbeing.
  • Oversee investigations of WHS incidents and hazards, ensuring timely resolution, stakeholder engagement, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain and monitor risk registers and lead the development of targeted action plans to prevent harm and support strategic risk mitigation.
  • Analyse WHS performance data to inform decision-making and support continuous improvement in safety outcomes.
  • Lead consultation with Health and Safety Committees, Representatives, and working groups to identify and resolve WHS issues collaboratively.

About You:

We are looking for a Senior Advisor who is:

  • A strategic and experienced WHS professional with deep expertise in both physical and psychological health and safety, and a strong understanding of legislative frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Confident leading complex investigations in response to physical and psychosocial hazards, developing risk mitigation strategies, and driving continuous improvement across safety systems and practices.
  • Has a proactive mindset and are skilled at designing and delivering WHS programs, training, and initiatives that foster a culture of wellbeing and accountability.
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator, able to engage with diverse stakeholders, lead consultation processes, and influence positive change across all levels of the organisation.
  • Analytical and data-driven, using performance metrics and insights to inform decision-making and enhance WHS outcomes.
  • Adaptable and resilient, capable of navigating a dynamic public sector environment and managing competing priorities with professionalism and care.
  • Committed to maintaining confidentiality, accuracy, and integrity in all aspects of your work, and take pride in contributing to a safe, inclusive, and forward-thinking workplace.

If you are an experienced professional with these attributes, we want to hear from you!
