Communications Lead
We’re looking for a mid-career communications professional to join our growing communications team. You’ll lead communications campaigns and projects targeting healthcare professionals across Australia, focused on driving engagement with ASHM’s courses and resources, conferences, and global aid work.
Team: Marketing and Communications
Location: Sydney, hybrid role. Open to applications from other States and Territories.
Employment status: Permanent full-time
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000, dependent on experience

About You
A dedicated, proactive individual who wants to lead impactful communications campaigns and projects.
You will lead projects to promote ASHM’s courses and conferences, communicating policy positions, and sharing impactful and educational content across our channels. You will have experience leading communications campaigns from planning through to delivery and evaluation. The role will report to Senior Communications and Marketing Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Lead communications projects from planning to delivery and evaluation, with support from the broader communications team
Oversee ASHM's email marketing activity, including leading the development of the monthly newsletter and supporting other regular mailouts
Contribute to the regular monitoring and evaluation of communications activity
Develop content for ASHM-owned channels (e.g. website, social media)
Lead stakeholder engagement activities across the HIV, blood-borne virus, and sexual and reproductive health sectors
Contribute to marketing for ASHM conferences, including driving registrations and managing on-site presence
Support other communications activities as required
Qualifications and Experience
Tertiary qualification in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or similar, or equivalent work experience
4+ years experience in a communications role
Demonstrated experience independently leading communications projects, from planning through to evaluation
Experience in not for profits or health, particularly HIV, BBVs or sexual and reproductive health is highly regarded
Desirable
Graphic design skills (Adobe Suite or Canva)
Experience creating and editing video content (for social media)
Website management and basic SEO knowledge
Social media advertising experience
Conference or event marketing experience
Skills and Abilities
Strong project leadership skills — able to independently plan and deliver communications initiatives
Collaborative team player, acting as a key contact across internal teams
Skilled in identifying and executing effective communications strategies
Excellent writing, editing, and attention to detail
Confident giving and receiving constructive feedback
Creative thinker with a proactive approach to finding new engagement opportunities
Capable of producing high-quality digital content (web, social media, articles) aligned with brand guidelines
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
Clear, professional communicator — both written and verbal
Flexible and adaptable to new tools, ideas, and formats
Confident leading brainstorms and contributing fresh ideas
Interest or willingness to develop knowledge in HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexual and reproductive health
