Are you a communications professional, media advisor or content strategist looking for purpose? NSW Irrigators’ Council (NSWIC) is seeking a proactive communicator who can bridge the city and the bush – meeting growers across regional NSW, creating powerful stories, and collaborating with our Sydney-based team to deliver a modern communications strategy.
The role
You’ll lead NSWIC’s external communications, brand and media engagement. It’s a hands-on role covering media strategy, content production, digital storytelling, stakeholder communications, and issues management.
The role can be based in Sydney (hybrid) or based in regional NSW. Regardless of base location, the role will require travelling around regional NSW.
Key responsibilities
Develop and implement a strategic communications and media plan
Produce high-quality written and digital content: news, op-eds, videos, infographics, and social media posts
Manage media relations: pitch stories, handle enquiries, prepare briefings and manage issues
Simplify complex water and irrigation policy for public audiences
Support senior leaders with speeches, talking points and event communications
Track and report media coverage and analytics
Coordinate communications for events, campaigns and field visits
About you
3–5+ years’ experience in communications, media relations, public affairs, journalism or marketing
Proven experience managing media issues and campaigns
Excellent written communication, editing and storytelling skills
Strong organisational and stakeholder engagement skills
Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or video editing software
Tertiary qualification in communications, media, journalism, or public policy
Willingness to travel to regional NSW
Desirable: agriculture or rural affairs knowledge; CMS or digital marketing experience; photography/videography skills.
