Your position summary

This position is an integral member of the 2Spirits team responsible for the coordination and support of programs, projects and events to contribute to better outcomes for our First Nations Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities in Queensland.

Your team – 2Spirits

● Contribution: Our 2Spirits Team is the heart of the organisation and its work to support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Queensland. Its role is central to the broader QC team being able to achieve our goal of providing support to people wherever they are in their life journey in a way that is culturally safe and embedded with indigenous ways of working.

● Key strategies: Our 2Spirits Team works within and alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to guide their work. The team also contributes to growing the knowledge of non-Indigenous members of the community to grow safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members which in turn addresses key sexual, social and emotional wellbeing issues being experienced by members of the communities.

Your contribution

● Operational leadership: Contribute to the leadership and delivery of 2Spirits suite of programs to develop 2Spirits sustainability, capacity, and capability to reach and meaningfully support First Nations LGBTI+SB in Queensland.

Key Selection Criteria

· Culturally Grounded Leadership: Demonstrated track record of effective leadership in a diverse, multidisciplinary organisation, with the ability to act as a trusted and welcoming point of contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities, partner organisations, key stakeholders, and both paid and unpaid members of the workforce.

· Community Services Experience: Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership role within a community services setting. Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation or in partnership with First Nations communities will be highly regarded.

· Respectful Relationships: Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage respectfully, build trust, and maintain strong working relationships with paid and unpaid staff, community partners, suppliers, Elders, cultural leaders, and other stakeholders.

· Business Acumen with Accountability: Strong financial and business management skills, including the ability to contribute to informed financial decision-making, operate within budgets, and ensure accountability to community, funding bodies, and the organisation.

· Operational and Cultural Responsiveness: Capacity to manage competing priorities across multiple office locations and a geographically dispersed workforce, while ensuring services remain culturally safe, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other diverse communities.

· Peer Workforce and Values Alignment: A deep understanding of, and commitment to, the role of peers in service delivery, and a demonstrated commitment to the organisation’s values, including cultural respect, self-determination, and community empowerment.

· Digital Capability: Proficiency in computing and digital systems, including web-based platforms, Mac and PC applications, and remote working technologies, with the ability to use these systems to strengthen collaboration and connection across communities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

This position oversees the following key duties and responsibilities (this list is not exhaustive and may include other duties as reasonably directed by the CEO):

· Leadership: Provide direct leadership and mentoring for a team of First Nations identified peer workers, guided by culturally secure, restorative practice frameworks that centre Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander worldviews, values and community strengths.

· Service Delivery: Lead, coordinate and provide oversight for programs and projects that promote the wellbeing of LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy First Nations communities across Queensland.

· Health Promotion: Provide strategic leadership for 2Spirits’ health promotion initiatives, particularly in the areas of Blood-Borne Virus (BBV) and Sexually Transmissible Infections (STI) prevention, ensuring approaches are culturally safe, inclusive and community-led.

· Sector Capacity and Reform: Contribute to sector development through advocacy, research, training and knowledge sharing, supporting systemic reform and strengthening the capacity of services engaging with First Nations LGBTIQ+SB communities.

· Policy and Advocacy: Support the CEO – 2Spirits in developing submissions, providing advice, and undertaking advocacy to advance systemic and public policy reform relating to First Nations LGBTIQ+SB health, human rights and equitable access to services.

· Business and Service Development: Assist with business development initiatives to expand 2Spirits’ statewide service delivery, including contributing to funding submissions, engaging with philanthropy, and developing and maintaining strong partnerships with Government and non-Government stakeholders.

· Risk Management and Quality: Support the CEO to implement and monitor risk management strategies, accreditations, incident management processes, and compliance with funder requirements, ensuring quality and accountability across the organisation.

· Continuous Improvement: Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aligned with strategic objectives, cultural practices, and legislative requirements, ensuring services remain relevant, effective, and responsive to community needs.

Reporting Relationships

Supervisor: Chief Executive Officer – 2Spirits

Supervisory Positions: 2Spirits Project Officer, Gayawur Identified Intake/Drop In Officer, 2S Health Promotion Officer.

Other key relationships: Executive Officer for Engagement and Partnerships, Engagement and Partnerships Officer, Executive Officer for Finance and Business, Finance Officer, People Support Officer.

Working from Home

This position allows for a mixture of home based and office-based hours.
