Viking Events are specialists in the Australian event hire industry, providing portable toilets, showers and hydration solutions across Melbourne and Adelaide for major events and festivals including Beyond the Valley, Good Things, V8 Supercars, Red Hot Summer, plus more.
We're looking for someone with solid event and festival experience to lead our Victorian operations. As an events insider, you know that being in events means every day is different. One day you might be in the office working on the finer details; planning and scheduling upcoming jobs, the next you're on site or in the yard working side by side with your team. Or out meeting clients and new prospects, overseeing live event operations... The role is varied - you get it.
The Role
The role of Manager is to ensure that every aspect of operations runs efficiently. From coordinating major music festivals to managing the maintenance of equipment and vehicles, you'll combine management and leadership with hands-on work.
You'll be driven by exceeding our customers' expectations and refining operations to make sure the business runs smoothly.
The role splits roughly into these domains:
30% Operations [planning, scheduling, logistics]
Resource planning and management (event scheduling, transport and staff allocation)
Driving operational improvements and efficiencies
Handling emergency response when needed
30% Customer acquisition and relationship management
Managing existing customer relationships and proactively growing revenue
Creating and negotiating quotes for major events
Advising on solutions for upcoming events
New business growth during non peak periods
30% Team & yard management
Managing a small permanent team as well as casual drivers and cleaning staff
Conducting staff training and development
Ensuring safety compliance and related documentation for the team, yard environment, equipment and vehicles
Overseeing equipment cleaning, repair and maintenance
10% Event delivery [On site or in the yard, getting your hands dirty]
Managing event delivery from planning to execution and post-event analysis
Work on site to lead bump in, Live Event and bump out for major events
Participating in hands-on work. eg. helping to unload trucks post-event and moving equipment into place to ensure an efficient work area
About you
Experience required
Successful track record of leading and managing teams in festivals and/or major events
Operations and logistics expertise; planning and resourcing in high intensity environments
Experience using event industry safety standards to plan and execute events, manage teams, and keep operations compliant.
Demonstrated success with building lasting customer relationships that drive retention and growth
Experience leading blue-collar teams through effective delegation, keeping team culture strong and communication clear.
Skills you'll need
Real mechanical aptitude and hands-on capability
Proficiency with tech (laptop, Google Workspace, rental management software, various software tools and phone apps). Tech requirements will only increase in this role
Nice to have but not mandatory - Valid MR truck and forklift licenses
Attitude & disposition
Friendly and honest, you communicate equally well with drivers, labourers and major event organisers.
Organised with a strong attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure and to (often shifting) deadlines
An ownership mindset—you take responsibility for safety, delivery standards, and personal and team outcomes.
Our offer
We're a growing company with a focus on continually improving our services and systems.
Our company has been built on reliability and practical solutions, and what really sets us apart is the high level of service and delivery we provide for our clients. That combination has led to levelling up our operations.
What We Offer:
The chance to shape operations in a growing business
A straight-talking, no-nonsense work environment
The satisfaction of seeing your work make immediate impact
Straight talk
If this role appeals to you, you no doubt love the events industry and all the chaos it entails. You'll already know this isn't your standard 9-5 role.
Event season (October-April) means early starts, late finishes, and weekend work. You'll need to be comfortable with the physical demands of the job and be ready to step in wherever needed.
If you understand that sometimes leadership means loading a truck at 6am, and it always means taking responsibility for getting the job done right, we want to hear from you.
How to Apply
Send your resume and a cover letter explaining what makes you perfect for this role. Include examples of events you've managed and teams you've led.
