About the role

As a People & Culture Trainee, you will support the delivery of key initiatives that enhance the employee experience and contribute to a positive organisational culture. You’ll rotate through the four service units within our People & Culture business unit, gaining valuable exposure to recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, WHS, payroll, learning and development, and more.

Reporting to the Learning & Development Partner, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond to routine enquiries and escalate complex matters as needed
  • Assist with administrative duties including data entry, purchase orders, and maintaining P&C records
  • Support recruitment activities such as job ads, interview scheduling, and pre-employment checks
  • Help coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes, including documentation and inductions
  • Assist with WHS and risk management tasks such as incident reporting and compliance record maintenance
  • Support learning and development programs by coordinating training and tracking attendance
  • Contribute to reporting requirements including quarterly metrics and workforce management strategies

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Completed HSC or equivalent (no prior HR experience required – full training provided)
  • Willingness and capacity to complete a Certificate IV in Human Resources Management
  • Ability to interpret information, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively in a diverse team
  • Experience managing tasks, meeting deadlines, and adapting in a dynamic workplace
  • Eagerness to learn, develop new skills, and grow within the People & Culture field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships
  • Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritise multiple tasks
  • Well-developed literacy and numeracy skills
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) and a willingness to learn more

* Salary for this position is as per the Local Government (State) Award 2023.

* Candidates must be enrolled in and studying the qualification for the duration of the employment term in order to be eligible
