About the Position

The position reports to the Neporendi Community Development Officer and is part of the Arts, Reconciliation and Cultural Development Team within the Community Capacity section of council.

The position:

  • Contribute to the goals and values of Neporendi, Community Capacity, and the City of Onkaparinga.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate programs that engage Aboriginal communities with Neporendi services.
  • Support planning and delivery of Reconciliation and NAIDOC Week events.
  • Collaborate on funding submissions to attract resources for community-led initiatives.
  • Advocate for community needs to council and service providers.
  • Manage budgets, volunteers, and reporting to ensure sustainable project outcomes.
  • Manage the Neporendi Community Centre in consultation with the Neporendi Aboriginal Forum Incorporated (NAFI), ensuring effective day-to-day operations.
  • Provide leadership and line management to staff, contractors, and volunteers, including recruiting, supporting, and growing the volunteer program.
  • Partner with NAFI to plan, develop, and deliver community-based projects and programs aligned with NAFI’s strategic plan and Council objectives.
  • Oversee the expansion of programs and services through a ‘hub and spoke’ model across identified community centres within the Council area.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including neighbourhood centres, human service providers, community groups, and residents.
  • Apply for and manage grant funding in collaboration with NAFI to enhance programs and deliver services that meet community needs.
  • Ensure delivery of actions under Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS), Department of Human Services (DHS), and National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) funding agreements.
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and correspondence, ensuring accurate, timely, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

You’re passionate about Aboriginal community development and skilled in creating culturally safe, inclusive programs that foster engagement and celebration. You build strong relationships, advocate effectively, and collaborate to deliver sustainable, community-led initiatives. With experience in program and event management, funding submissions, and volunteer management, you’re organised, self-managed, and able to work independently. You thrive in a government environment, aligning your work with strategic goals and policies to ensure meaningful outcomes for Neporendi and the City of Onkaparinga.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in delivering successful programs and initiatives through partnering and collaborating with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Experience in successfully building relationships and networks with a wide range of stakeholders within government agencies, community groups, funding bodies and community organisations.
  • Experience in planning, designing, coordinating, growing and evaluating community programs and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability and proven track record in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities.
  • To work independently, under limited direction to agreed timeframes
  • Organisational and time management skills including the ability to develop and maintain work and information flow.
