Your Opportunity

As the Operational Supervisor you will be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership and day to day supervision of employees and operational activities within the DSO function, ensuring that key performance indicators are achieved;
  • Building partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to establish a single point of contact for the management of operational matters related to the DS function; and
  • Developing, maintaining and reviewing processes and procedures, incorporating feedback from a range of internal and external stakeholders and implementing best practice approaches.

This position reports to the Delivery Support Manager.

This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity.

There is one position that will be based primarily at Cairns, and one position that will be based primarily in Townsville however, you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building knowledge and capability within the team and across the broader DSO business unit;
  • Ensuring the human resource management issues are addressed in accordance with the appropriate procedures;
  • Contributing to the achievement of DS commercial and business performance objectives and KPIs; and
  • Ensuring that contractual timeframes and obligations associated with UC/Mainstream team contracts are met.

  • Contribute to the success of cultural change within the organisation through promoting and modelling the established TAFE Queensland values of Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, Showing Initiative and Safety First.
  • Coordinate and monitor the operational activities of the DSOs team, including providing clear direction on the allocation of resources, prioritisation of tasks and compliance with approved processes in order to ensure that key performance indicators (KPIs) are achieved by the team.
  • Work in collaboration with the DS Manager, to ensure the efficient and effective operation, and the management and development of, a high performing team, including:
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all applicable legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines to ensure that TAFE Queensland is compliant with statutory obligations including DET, pre-qualified supplier (PQS) and Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
  • DTET Compliance Coordination
  • Work in partnership with a range of external stakeholders to identify and build business efficiencies by managing the administrative aspects of delivery and establish a single point of contact for the management of operational matters including various requests and addressing issues and concerns.
  • Engage collaboratively with key stakeholders to identify and develop effective processes to ensure accuracy of information and compliance with statutory obligations, and regular review of system procedures, processes and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative and mutually beneficial networks with a wide range of stakeholders, including within the Region and TAFE Queensland more broadly by actively representing the Regions interests in focus groups, networks, forums and associated activities to ensure DS strategies are aligned to regional requirements.
  • Generate and analyse business performance reports to inform strategic decision-making processes and individual performance review and development activities and interrogate educational delivery support data to respond to ad-hoc requests for information.
  • Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through the timely and appropriate management of complaints, including those received from both internal and external stakeholders and escalated from members of the DS team, and provide accurate information directorate leadership to assist with preparation of correspondence.
  • Operate as a collaborative member of the DS leadership group, proactively seeking and acting upon opportunities to enhance working relationships, challenge current practices and attitudes consistent with the Region’s Agreed Behaviours, and drive consistency across all aspects of the DS function.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  1. Ability to effectively manage and supervise operational activities and performance, including the ongoing review of systems, procedures and resource allocation, the generation of reports and analysis of data, along with the establishment of clear direction and priorities.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of TAFE Queensland’s student management systems, sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and procedure and an ability to provide operational advice and guidance which supports the achievement of business objectives, meets client expectations and complies with TAFE Queensland’s statutory obligations.
  3. Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including the ability to successfully manage emergent operational issues and propose workable solutions to facilitate successful outcomes for both clients and the organisation.
  4. Highly developed communication and relationship management skills as evidenced by the ability to impart knowledge and develop and effectively manage positive and collaborative partnerships with a wide variety of key stakeholders.
  5. Provides high level and supportive leadership that rewards excellence, encourages creativity and innovation to maximise workforce capability within a challenging and changing environment.
