Trade Assistant – Rail Maintenance (6-Month Contract)
Location: Cardiff Rail Maintenance Centre
Schedule: Monday to Friday – Day Shifts
Hours: 6:30am – 2:30pm or 7:00am – 3:30pm
Pay Rate:$47.38 per hour (for standard hours) Penalty Rates Paid.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Trade Assistant with mechanical aptitude and strong hands-on experience to join their team at the Cardiff Rail Maintenance Facility. Role Summary
As part of a major retrofit program, you'll be responsible for:

• Retrofitting rail cables by cutting rerouting, re-cabling, and reinstalling systems
• Using specialised lifting equipment to handle components safely
• Working to technical and safety standards
• Assisting technicians with disassembly and reassembly tasks
• Full training provided

Essential Skills, Experience & Cultural Fit

• Minimum of 6 Months proven on-site practical Trade Assistant experience of working in a heavy industry workshop.
• Confident with hand and power tools for disassembly /disconnecting , cleaning, and reassembly / reconnecting of electrical & mechanical components.
• Background in heavy industries such as automotive, mining, aviation, naval, or manufacturing advantageous.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• High attention to safety, with proactive involvement in toolbox talks.
• Ability to work independently, prioritising tasks efficiently.
• Positive “can-do” attitude with a willingness to learn and upskill.
• Must hold a valid OH&S White Card.

Desirable Skills & Licences

• Partially completed mechanical trade qualification (local or overseas).
• Current NSW LF Forklift Licence highly desirable.
• Additional mechanical/electrical aptitude will be highly regarded.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, including Drug & Alcohol screening.
• Must have full, unrestricted working rights in Australia.
• Must comply with applicable Public Health Orders.
