About us
We're on a mission to create a brighter future, where you can be a change maker at the actual source. We're one of Australia's largest water utilities with over 30% of Victoria's population relying on us for their essential water and sanitation services.
Our award-winning culture fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and flexible environment that enables our people to thrive. Here, you'll be inspired and challenged to grow alongside us.
We're committed to reconciliation and supporting the self-determined role for Traditional Owners/Custodians in water and land management.
The Role
Are you a hands-on electrical expert who loves seeing a project through to the finish line? We're seeking an Electrical Project Officer to join our Mechanical and Electrical Projects team. In this role, you'll be a key player in the successful design, testing, commissioning, and integration of new electrical assets into our operational network.
You'll act as a critical bridge between our project delivery teams and operations, providing expert guidance to ensure all new assets are fit for purpose. Your work will guarantee that everything from design to final operation meets Yarra Valley Water's high standards, industry benchmarks, and functional objectives, with a strong focus on safety.
Your key responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise to tender evaluation committees, focusing on the testing, commissioning, and integration plans of new projects.
- Review electrical, instrument, and control designs for adherence to YVW standards, codes of practice, and AS/NZS standards, incorporating lessons learned and ensuring constructability.
- Participate in risk assessments, including safety in design, machine safety, and HAZOP reviews.
- Advise on planning for ITP, ITR, cutover, commissioning, and decommissioning during the design phase.
- Witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to ensure alignment with documentation, functional specifications, and Australian Standards.
- Create punch lists for FAT and SAT activities, collaborating with project managers to resolve issues.
- Conduct site inspections and walk-throughs to validate and accept as-constructed drawings and ensure quality.
- Assist project managers in responding to RFIs and managing scope changes that may impact the design and operation of electrical assets.
- Ensure consistency in the electrical approach across various projects and teams within asset delivery.
What we're looking for
- A qualification in Engineering or a Technician Cert III in a relevant water industry field is highly desirable but not required.
- A valid Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card) is a mandatory requirement for this role.
- Extensive knowledge and proven competency in Quality Assurance principles, standards, and practices.
- Extensive experience in commissioning and maintaining water, recycled water, sewerage networks, or treatment plants.
- A proven track record of providing innovative engineering solutions for complex integration problems.
- Familiarity with Construction and Maintenance Contracts, including contractual obligations, performance standards, and technical requirements.
- High-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively and present complex information clearly.
