We're seeking an EL1 Assistant Director to lead and support high-impact policy projects aimed at improving the wellbeing of veterans and their families. You'll play a key role in shaping initiatives, providing high-quality advice, and ensuring effective coordination across stakeholders.

What you'll do

Work independently to deliver agreed projects and objectives

Provide secretariat support to an inter-jurisdictional working group

Develop and analyse policy, preparing advice for Ministers and senior executives

Draft correspondence, reports, meeting papers and ministerial briefings

Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders to progress priorities

Contribute to responses to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide

What you bring

Proven experience in policy development and analysis

Excellent written communication skills (briefings, reports, correspondence)

Experience providing secretariat support to committees or working groups

Strong stakeholder management capability

Ability to work independently, show initiative and deliver quality outcomes

Contract details

EL1 equivalent | Full-time (37.5 hrs/week)

Contract to 30 June 2026, with potential 6-month extension

$80-$90/hr + super (negotiable)

Baseline security clearance sponsored post-engagement

Staff use department systems; no offshore data storage or access
