About the opportunity
The Director, Industry Engagement leads the Industry Engagement team within the Education & Industry Engagement branch (EIE) of AUSTRAC. This role provides across all key functions of the team, with a primary focus on supporting and leading, under general direction, the delivery of AUSTRAC’s industry engagement initiatives.
The Industry Engagement team was created to coordinate and drive effective and impactful engagement with stakeholders to support the implementation of the recently amended Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act) which simplifies and modernises Australia’s AML/CTF regime and expands it to a range of new sectors.
EIE brings together the Industry Education and Outreach, Contact Centre, External Communications and Industry Engagement teams, and seeks to empower reporting entities to understand and comply with their AML/CTF obligations through impactful education, engagement and communication.

Professional Experience - Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing change initiatives and stakeholder relationship management.
Qualifications - Relevant qualifications in compliance, audit, legal, communications or related disciplines, and/or demonstrated equivalent experience, are desirable.
Communicates Effectively - Communicates complex information clearly and persuasively and presents information with a high level of proficiency and for maximum effect.
Relate and Network - Seeks opportunities to develop and maintain relationships within AUSTRAC and Home Affairs, across the APS, with Government, and with stakeholders and business partners in pursuit of strategic outcomes.
Key Duties
The Director, Industry Engagement, under broad direction from the National Manager, is responsible for the following:
Developing and delivering a range of engagement mechanisms including industry working groups, forums, roundtables and town hall meetings to enable the sharing of information on a variety of topics
Proactively monitoring industry issues and trends to understand where guidance and support is required
Developing staff and leading a team in a way that maintains AUSTRAC’s supportive and safe working environment
Developing clear written communications that are able to be understood by a broad range of businesses that have obligations under the AML/CTF Act
Developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships that contribute to AUSTRAC’s collaborative regulatory approach to encourage compliance with the AML/CTF Act
Leading and coordinating engagement with relevant industry associations to ensure that the AML/CTF reforms are developed and implemented using a co-design model
Ensuring AUSTRAC delivers a whole of agency strategic approach to industry engagement
Co-ordinating external speaking engagements and presentations
Leading budget and resource management and planning for Industry Engagement.

Must be an Australian citizen at the time you apply.
Will need to undertake AUSTRAC’s pre-engagement checks.
Will need to obtain and maintain an ongoing Negative Vetting 1 Clearance
