Are you an experienced mental health clinician considering a pathway to retirement or seeking to step away from direct clinical service delivery?
We are seeking expressions of interest for the newly established Mental Health Clinical Advisor position (part-time, contract until June 2026, with possibility of extension).
About the Role
This role offers the opportunity to stay connected to the sector by applying your clinical expertise in a strategic, non-clinical capacity. You'll guide service design, integration, and quality, ensuring WQPHN's commissioned mental health services are safe, effective, and culturally responsive. Instead of providing direct care, you'll use your clinical knowledge to shape systems, support providers, and influence the future of mental health care across Western Queensland.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert clinical advice to strengthen service models and commissioning.
Influence cross-sector planning and integration strategies.
Mentor WQPHN staff and support Communities of Practice.
Ensure trauma-informed, culturally safe approaches to service delivery.
Represent WQPHN in high-level forums, promoting sector collaboration.
The Right Person
You will bring:
Credentialed Mental Health Clinician status (Psychologist, Mental Health Social Worker or equivalent).
AHPRA registration as the minimum requirement for credentialed mental health clinician status.
5+ years' experience in primary or community mental health.
An understanding of the needs of regional, remote, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Some direct service experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The desire to continue making an impact in mental health, without frontline pressures.
Advanced communication and project management skills.
Our Working Environment
Ideally based in the Western Queensland region, such as Longreach, Mount Isa, Roma, Winton or surrounds, though applicants from across Queensland are welcome.
Why WQPHN?
Contract role until June 2026, with potential extension if desired.
Flexible, hybrid work arrangements.
Attractive salary packaging benefits.
A supportive, values-led team committed to lasting health outcomes.
Our Commitment to Reconciliation
WQPHN is committed to embedding culturally safe practices in all work. Our Reconciliation Action Plan reflects our dedication to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged.
