CJF Tiling and Stone is a Canberra-based team delivering quality tiling and stonework across residential renovations, new builds, and light commercial projects. We handle bathrooms, kitchens, full-home floors, pools, outdoor areas, and select commercial amenities. We value craftsmanship, reliability, and a clean, safe site. About the Role:

This is a practical, on-the-tools position where you’ll spend your days delivering quality tiling work on active sites. You’ll join small, supportive crews or run jobs solo once you’re ready. We work on a mix of residential and commercial projects, so you’ll get exposure to different site environments, timelines, and standards. If you’re reliable, take pride in neat, accurate finishes, and communicate well with teammates and site managers, you’ll fit right in. We provide the structure, tools, and guidance to help you build confidence and progress at a steady pace.

Key responsibilities:

Set-out and layout

Read plans/drawings and measure accurately.

Plan set-out to ensure plumb, level, and square lines.

Choose layouts that minimise cuts and optimise aesthetics (feature walls, niches, mitres).

Surface preparation

Substrate checks, priming, levelling/patching, screeding.

Waterproofing preparation and falls to drains (licensing requirements observed).

Movement joints and perimeters to Australian Standards.

Installation

Mix/apply adhesives.

Install ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, stone, and large-format tiles (walls and floors).

Neat cuts, mitres, transitions; trims/angles installed correctly.

Grouting and silicone/caulking to a high finish.

Quality and safety

Work to AS 3958 and manufacturer specifications.

Maintain clean areas, protect finishes, manage waste.

Participate in pre-starts, SWMS, toolbox talks.

Site coordination

Communicate with supervisors, builders, tradies, and clients.

Flag variations, defects, and material needs early.

Work to schedules and meet milestones.

For apprentices and labourers

Assist trades (mixing, cutting, carrying, site setup/clea.nup).

Learn set-out, cutting, small install tasks under supervision.

Progress to independent tasks as skills grow.

What we’re looking for:

Qualified Experience with 2-3 years experience.

Strong attention to detail and pride in finish quality.

Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused.

Team player who can also work independently.

Physically capable for manual handling and repetitive tasks.

Tickets and licenses

(White Card & Asbestos Awareness (ACT) and Silica Awareness preferred.

Valid driver’s license and your own reliable transport.

Waterproofing, large-format handling, and basic carpentry prep (underlays, sheeting, fall screeds, etc).

Hours and location:

Full-time, Monday to Friday; occasional Saturdays by agreement.

Sites across Canberra and nearby NSW (e.g., Queanbeyan, Googong etc).

All work planned to reduce unnecessary travel where possible.

Examples of problem-solving (tricky set-outs, substrate issues).

Proven reliability (attendance and punctuality).

For apprentices: TAFE transcripts/units completed and learning goals.
