We are currently looking for an experienced/passionate chef that takes pride in their work, enjoys remote living, is up for an adventure, works well in small teams and enjoys interacting with guests.
(Seasonal work- Immediate start - Only needed for October and November 2025, with potential work ongoing in 2026)
As a chef at Cobourg Coastal Camp (CCC), you are regarded as one of the major faces of the company. Your culinary skills, attention to detail, excellent hygiene and your ability to engage with guests in a fun and friendly manor is paramount for ensuring every guest has a fantastic holiday.
In a nutshell, you are responsible for cooking and serving all meals at Cobourg Coastal Camp (2-12 fishing guests) whilst also contributing to operations behind the scenes that are an essential part of running a remote operation.
Cobourg Fishing Safaris (Owned by Venture North Australia) provide fly in/flyout fishing packages departing Darwin and staying at Cobourg Coastal Camp. Accommodating on average 2 to 12 guests at a time, the typical stay for a group is 3 to 6 days. Fishing guests are predominantly apart of a ‘blokes trip away’ or a ‘family holiday’ and in the main are Australian.
As an employee at CCC, it is important to understand the little differences and qualities in our operation that set us apart from other fishing lodges/camps. These differences are often unexpected by the typical visitor and are somewhat welcome surprises that are invaluable to our company’s success. These are:
The friendly, easy going, high level of customer service from start to finish
The incredible fishing and wildlife experiences
The location, atmosphere, attention to detail and the intimacy of the camp
The high-end culinary experience
Part of the job involves stock orders that will be purchased and sent to camp by the operations team in Darwin. To streamline the food ordering process as much as possible we have a set food order sent out to camp for each fishing trip. If you wish to make any major adjustments to the menu, we are also open to this.
Primary duties include but are not limited to:
Preparing, cooking and serving breakfast, lunch, canape’s & dinner at a time suitable for individual groups. This includes preparing snack/lunch packs for guests to take on the boat.
B/L/D times may differ from group to group depending on when they head out fishing and return etc.
Cleaning up cooking equipment as you go (the housekeeper will clean guest dishes)
Keeping your workspace clean and hygienic (this is especially important as you will be working in an open kitchen which is in view of all guests)
Food stocktakes and orders
Fresh food and dry food pantry/fridge management
Accommodation and meals are provided at camp as part of the job and on request, there may be opportunities to fly back to Darwin between fishing tours.
Training will be held for the first week you are at camp where there will be an opportunity to understand the operations, procedure, standards and expectations specific to the position.
Perks of the job:
Well paid and low expenses
Independence and flexibility within the workplace
Work hours are dependant on your efficiency
In free time you can fish, explore beaches and the park
Open kitchen in an amazing environment overlooking the ocean
Unbelievable wilderness experience
Fantastic team of people
